Ross Barkley

Know what you're saying, but the teams we have been playing Ross has been getting a lot of close attention that he's not been able to cope with. Reckon he'd have got a lot more freedom today. They're playing a very attacking formation though so it's probably a good call to fill the midfield and try and hit them on the break.
We'll have to stay in the game for 60 mins to have any chance today and to do that we're going to have to press hard and spend plenty of the game closing them down, which just isn't Ross's game

If we're still on the game going into the last third I think the game could be made for him to come on and change it.

Good shout. It's actually not a bad bench tbf. Ross and Kev, plus McCarthy to add some energy when Barry inevitably tires.

His pass completion percentage is usually in the 90s which would answer the third one. I agree he's weak defensively but that's not really his role in the team. I'd argue the benefit of playing 2 defensive mids is that you don't need your attacking mids to defend as much. I can't imagine city fans complain about David Silva's defensive contribution as long as he's creating opportunities.

Having spent years watching Everton players hit the first man with corners I guess I don't think they're as straightforward as you do!

That team is built around silva.... and it's worth it because he creates so much... everything goes through him ... you can't build a team around ross ... he's no where near good enough

Thought this game would have suited him to be honest as City will afford him plenty of space. Normally does well against them tbf.
Glad he didn't play today tbh. In the form he's in and with the pressure the city players put on the ball I think he'd have lost it a lot today. What a result that feels like a win. City are by far the best team in the league, that was a pretty awesome display from them. Well played blues for showing that desire and stubbornness to get a result. 6 months ago that would have ended with a pasting.

Hindsight would say that it was a good decision to drop Ross because we earned a very good point today. To contra that though, this was the first game this season where Ross would have found space and we had no outlet today with him not in the team, which became very much a backs to the wall operation.

When Del was brought off I'd like to have seen Ross come on playing sort of a 4312 formation. We still would have had 7 defence minded outfield players on the pitch. Apart from the goal there was no attacking threat from us.

Still a very good point though which I would have taken before start of play;)

Ross needed to be on the bench today, which is a real shame, but we couldnt risk him giving the ball away in a dangerous area, hope he starts thou next week.
