Ross Barkley

He's not a number 10 mate. That's his only problem. Martinez and now Koeman play him out of position. He's a CM in the mould of Toure. Play him there or play him nowhere. Simple as that.

Yes but in the way we play he cant be a cm because you need defensive qualities like putting pressure on your opponent.

Think I outed him first, but you could be right on the person. He was definitely not an Aussie though, just pretending to be.

Strange bunch these kopites pretending to be blue's.

Should have a whip round to get a brass to rip up their v card
It can't be healthy all this frustration

Without getting into an argument with anyone, here's my opinion. I'm as frustrated as anyone when Ross doesn't deliver, but let's not destroy him. He's a young lad, he's a local lad and he's playing for his boyhood team. He's got the ability, we've all seen that, but he also needs confidence. I know he's well paid for doing what he loves, but again, he's a young lad and it's not working out at the moment, he's not hiding though.
I totally understand people's frustration but I'd hate to see him driven out. He's not ready to lead the team yet and hopefully he'll have better players around him soon enough.

Oscar is basically the Brazilian Barkley. Pedro is not great either and Mata and Mkhitaryan can't get in over an awful Rooney. They are all right about Ross's level. The other lads are a class above what we can get right now
Neither are very creative but Oscar works harder. Pedro is a winger. Rooney is only playing because of his standing at the club and is the reason for their poor form.

Mata is light years ahead of Barkley in that position although in fairness to Barkley it's been obvious he doesn't have the tools to break down a team that defends narrow and deep all the way back to Martinez's first season. Playing him there against those teams will only hurt his confidence.

feel sorry for the lad at times, how many times did our fans give it the 'arrgghhhh' as soon he made a mistake tonight? it seems to be that if he doesn't play well hes automatically been the worst player on the pitch. he should've shot on a couple of occasions tonight but the ball wasn't out of his feet properly on both occasions, its no wonder he doesn't do things without over thinking it, hes probably worrying about what the biffs in the gwladys street are going to do if he makes a mistake. you'll all be sorry if he ends up f-king us off because of it.

He was piss poor for the second half of last season though mate, I put some of that down to the crowd getting on his case though, and him looking like an unfit lard arse.

Everyone of them were though.

Last season was his best so far: 8 goals and 8 assists. It's utter horse manure for people now to be rewriting history and saying he's going backwards. He needs the right role and coaching to keep progressing. That's Koemans job...which he should be doing on the pitches at FF not undermining him with his fan boys in the local and national media.

I have probably fallen into the trap of over-rating him, simply because I so want him to do well. Perhaps the reality now emerging is that he is, and will be on his day, a very decent player, but not a worldie.

The burden that is placed on him is clearly that, and he looks very often incapable of carrying it on his shoulders. I think if Koeman's ideas take shape over time,
Barkley will find himself on the margins. The better we do as a team, the less reliant we will be on him, and you would imagine Koeman won't have infinite patience, as harsh as that is.

Apart from Lukaku though, he is our main goal threat, much more so than the likes of Geri or Bolasie will be. Mirallas might get 10 in a good season. Ross will get 10 or more. So whilst a spell on the bench might benefit him in the short term, he is not our biggest problem by far and we don't have the luxury of doing without him with our current paucity of depth and quality.

How he can be helped to overcome his mental fragility is the biggest question. This sort of thing is innate. My gut feeling is that he won't be able to and that we'll just have to live with this version of him, for good and bad.

I wouldn't be sorry. He's English we'd get a fortune for him ( not sure who he's go to most big clubs have better AM's)

We could buy a real attacking mid

Already missed out on payet mata and banega in last few years..

Agree most of them were crap last season, but Barkley's form was boss first half of the season, then he just looked like he went to bits, lost all confidence, was really inconsistent, I'm starting to wonder if it's a mental issue with him at times.
