Ross Barkley

Brilliant yesterday. That cross yesterday....I was celebrating before Lukaku actually headed it because it was the type of ball that it was virtually impossible to miss scoring. Im sure he will sign, despite the media doing their best to sell him. Would be nice to see a journalist do their job and just outright ask him why he hasn't signed a deal yet? Probably because they know he is signing but it fits the narrative to keep the story going by not asking the question directly.

Yeah, that's my thinking too. I've just posted in the Koeman thread feeling a bit more positive about him this morning, but I'd prefer not to lose a player like Barkley due to a manager that many would feel might only be here 2 or 3 seasons.

Obviously if it's all just Ross and he doesn't wanna sign then that's a whole other story.

I think Koeman has helped Ross with some tough love though, and I'm still pretty sure he will be here next season and will still be key to the team no matter who we sign.
It can't work that way. The manager has to be the most important person at a club, or 99% of the time it won't work. The only exception to that rule was Chelsea, where basically Terry, Lampard and Drogba managed the team and the manager had to do what they wanted. At most clubs though you need a strong manager, and if that means losing some players along the way, that's unfortunate but it happens. Ferguson fell out with Beckham, Van Nistelrooy, Stam, etc etc. They all left, but as long as he was there they were all right.

Sterling and Stones' recent moves to City must also be playing on his mind.Players his age no better than himself.

Mega money and bonuses, maximum media attention, minimum top 4 finish,Champions League football , a real chance of winning something every year and a guaranteed England place.

Of course none of those players have actually fulfilled their hype yet and many people will say they would have been better staying where they were. But you can see why it must be so tempting.

Maybe offering him the captaincy next year might make him realise that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

If he leaves it will probably be the dumbest thing he ever does.
The plus points of staying as a boyhood blue are obvious.

Some negatives:

Us crowd as a collective haven't always had patience with him

He has a manager who has outed him many times this season

No champions league

Not getting in the England team

Could all of this be solved if he leaves? Probably.

Hopefully will sign the contract. Would be a big loss. Can add more to his game but still a very good player as it is. But step back a bit. Stones barkley and rom. If all sold in less than a year? A big spine of a potentially very good young team gone.

I know, but if we sold him in the summer due to not fitting in with the managers plan and then Koeman was gone the following summer? I'd be gutted we lost what could've been a very good (who still has the possibility to be much better) player who was a boyhood blue, a local lad and could have player for us for his entire career and all for a manager who was just passing through.

I know a lot of modern football fans seem to care more about big transfer fees and BIG signings, and having to have a black and white opinion after every result, good or bad, but I couldn't really care less about that. He is a blue. He is flawed, but very good and contribution wise is a valuable squad at worst....a key first team player or star at his very best.

My loyalty is to the club and, until shown otherwise, the lad is more a part of the club than the manager and the majority of the players. It obviously leaves me open to being burnt by a player like Rooney when they feck off elsewhere, but hey having followed us for almost 30 years I am used to being disappointed by Everton.

Sadly, recent history tells us that the only players who are Everton fans who stay with us long term stay because they aren't good enough to move on.

I was thinking this.

He has come on leaps and bounds in the last 6 months yet prior to that he was all over the place.
Earlier this season his performances left a lot to be desired (Sunderland away was particularly bad).

But RK has turned him around over this season. We as fans want nothing more than to see a local boyhood blue carry us to glory.
I thought the emergence of Tom Davies would have helped lift the burden of the local star tag too.

For whatever reason he appears to be weighing up his options.
IF he where to leave though there are no guarantees that he will maintain this current form.
He is certainly a confidence player and a dip in form elsewhere could see his career stagnate.
As much as some fans have given him a difficult time there is not a single Evertonian who doesn't want to see him achieve everything in the game whilst playing for us.

I hope he stays.
