He's just playing his usual ultra deep role that he's played for pretty much the entire season under Sarri. His role is to just do the basic stuff and distribute, he's not expected to be some creative dynamo. Kante plays further ahead of him pretty much every match... It's just the way Sarri has his teams play. I agree it doesn't utilise his best attributes but I think we are well past the days of him ever doing the kind of things he did in his first season at Everton.

He's a different player now, a much more conservative and boring one.
