I think Messi is just tired of being Messi. It's basically been a decade of the hopes and dreams, successes and failures of two of the largest and most passionately supported footballing institutions being put on his shoulders. I just don't think he wants to do it anymore.

Exactly, he made it as crystal as possible he wanted away last summer. The president used sleight of hand over dates to stick rigidly to contracts and force him to stay.. (Coronavirus lockdown practicalities just conveniently ignored)
