It was, and it was such a bizarre hire as well - he doesn't fit ANYTHING from the Barca mentality. A coach who likes pressing and off the ball movement and counter attacks... At Barcelona?! PFT.

They were also dire though, shame about his hype, but he had fallen out with most of the squad (apparently).

Joan Laporta: “Koeman will continue to be the coach [regardless of tonight’s result]. He deserves a margin of confidence, above all for being a legend. I appreciate how he has accepted to coach the club in these difficult times” - so basically, Laporta saying "we haven't found a replacement (yet)". As soon as they do, as per typical Laporta fashion, he'd be sacked in a second.

Sad to see, really. Whatever one thinks of Koeman or Solskjaer for that matter, they gave the fans of their clubs the ultimate moment of ecstasy as players. Koeman was world class. It just goes to show that so much of the adoration associated with this game is transient and insincere. Koeman is dislikable, but he is not the reason Barcelona is now a shell. His ego clearly got the better of him when he accepted that poisoned chalice. He was doing quite well with the Dutch national team, too. Should have stayed with them.
