Ronald Koeman discussion

You cannot play with one formation all the time. Koemans formations are made to try and gain advantage over the different types of opposition. If we play one formation all the time then clubs will find it easier to nullify. At least Koeman recognises when a formation is not working and will change it. The more formations the team can play the more flexible the team will be and swap and change during the course of a match. Not all of them work as the other team will more than likely be doing the same. Like a game of chess between managers

Chelsea after 5/6 games stuck to the same formation last season and won the league. Your talking rubbish

To echo other comments - you can't play with just one formation if your going to compete, and try and win, all the different competitions we're playing in. If you do your just waiting to get beaten.

He may of admitted to getting it wrong, but his first intention was probably to give players more time to play the 3-5-2. The n assessed there was no pint doing this against Stoke. But he will probably have to against Man City so why not make the decision to find out now more about which players can play to it. Or maybe he'll just abandon this in favour of something else. But he needs to find out.

Chelsea did after 5/6 games last year and won the league. Whoops

So you do? Fair enough, although in my opinion a major reason for our failing under the previous manager was the refusal to change how we lined up, making us predictable and as a result teams knew how to nulify us.

I agree the first half was a bit naff, but we still scored what turned out to be the winning goal and he changed it up at half time which allowed us to take a foothold in the game.

Ideally yes the initial line should be perfect in an ideal world, but it's not an idea world

Please explain this statement.

Pretty simple. Sometimes injuries/players being unavailable due to suspension can force a manager down a different road. We saw this with Bolaise last season.

I don't think having two DM's is going to get us into the top 6 and I don't believe Klaassen is a better option than Davies (at the moment anyhow) and we need more pace up front. I would be happy for Koeman to rotate them but I believe he will keep playing that way until something forces his hand.

Maybe but I struggle to understand why you included Sandro in your OP. Without him we'd lose any dynamism in our team currently. I do think he'd be better on the left wing or up front in a two but he simply has to play.

It's worrying that we still don't know what formation we are going to play

It's also worrying that we don't have the right players for the right positions. DCL playing a wing back role today is a bad shout. He's a striker! Sign a wing back
I don't get this "what formation we are going to play".That will surely depend on the strength or weakness of the oppositiom.and is also likely to change in game due to circumstance.Unlees you want our Ron to give the rest of the Prem the heads-up?

Six Prem teams started with three at the back on Friday/Saturday. Systems have evolved and formations changed as long as I've been watching football, which is close to seventy years. I remember Don Revie and Raich Carter and the 'deep lying centre forward', with both 'inside forwards' advanced of the number 9 as 'twin strikers'. Thing is, you always have to have the personell who can adapt...and we don't have that yet. Two or three more signings and a settling period and we will be fine, with a basic system that can be adjusted based on circumstances.

We had four players play yesterday that were not at the club last season. It will take a lot of time to get an understanding and chemistry of how we should play.

I dont remember us playing 3 at the back this pre-season, so how are the players supposed to get used to a formation if we dont play it week in and week out. Its as if we are a jack of all formations and a master of none. It is not a good sign when you have players looking clueless as to what they should be doing and arguing amongst themselves.

We play look better with 4 at the back so lets just keep with that until we are comfortable with the entire squad knowing what they need to do.

Its what puts a seed of doubt in my mind about Koeman is he makes some baffling decisions which over complicate things.
