That sitter by Gueye would have been an unbelievable team goal. 27 passes I think it was but it was absolutely superb build up play.
I may have exaggerated with my 40-50 a little but yes.

It amuses me that some people think only one brand of football is acceptable and all others are not
I like what I like, but I'm not going to say it's better, I'm merely going to say I prefer it
Everton should play only one way, the winning way, and if we have to keep trying all sorts of different tactics to get there, then so be it
We cannot afford to be so rigid
If Ronald Koeman thinks we'll win more games being a bit more direct, then so be it. It's a results business
Thus far he's been hit and miss, but there's no reason to think this more direct approach can't work and certainly no reason to have the knives out for him because the team aren't doing enough step overs
Mixing it up with the odd long ball is perfectly acceptable. But football is meant to be played on the deck through a combination of passing.
Anyone who believes it should be a perfect balance of long ball and passing has things out of whack, imo.
It's why we have always been known as the school of science. It's our tradition. We should always look to get back to that and we most certainly shouldn't be promoting its antithesis.
Exactly
The play leading up to the penalty against Saints was another example
We are capable of that sort of play and Koeman does seem to want us to do more of it, but he's also aware that the result is all important
I think Koeman wants to be a pragmatic manager. He's not quite there yet but maybe with these incomings we can edge ever closer
This whole situation is a work in progress and we don't know how it's going to turn out yet. Koeman doesn't really have a "style" yet because he doesn't have his team yet. That doesn't change the fact though that there are many ways to play football and all are valid so long as they are within the rules. It is merely a matter of preference which way you prefer
Actually his managerial CV is far from bang average as you put it. He's achieved numerous trophies at different sides (and we all know that winning at least one makes a class manager! At least according to your logic) and has had plenty of successful leagues seasons at various different clubs, including two very successful seasons at Southampton (it was very successful by their standards) and is currently having a passable season here despite working with this abomination of a squad. The CV says it all: very good player, bang average manager.

One thing I do know is that for us to get where all want to be will take time
It might happen with Koeman and it might not, but one thing for sure is that it isn't going to happen overnight

I think it boils down to Mikey is just doing it in the right areas.
At Saints they got the ball forward quickly, but played some really decent stuff in the oppo's half.
That to me is better than 20 sideways passes on the half-way line.
The state of this ffs.Totally agree. Would like us to approach the following managers in the summer;
Pochettino
Tuchel
Klopp
Unai Emery
Wenger
We have big money, we need to start acting like a big club.

I want us to play like we were in the last season under Moyes, there was some brilliant stuff being played that season but we also knew when we had to go more directOne question for the folk complaining that Koeman's team has been too direct
Have you guys and gals ever sat back to consider that perhaps some people actually like that style of football?
It seems to me like you think there's only one acceptable way to play football and that's in an aesthetic manner with lots of technical skill and passing, but have you ever stopped to think that not everyone agrees with you?
You seem to be operating under the assumption that your stance is objective as opposed to subjective
Different people like different things
I remember seeing comments during the Martinez years that our fan base was in need of "re-education" and had to be "weaned" from more direct football
Well perhaps people don't need to be weaned and perhaps they don't want to be re-educated? Maybe they just want to like what they like without the tactical nazis stomping on them for enjoying a nice cross into the box for the target man?
For me, I don't mind a bit of direct route one stuff on occasion. Would I want it all the time? No, probably not. But would I like it if we played on the whole more direct with a dash of flair here and there? Yes, I probably would
I think too many people are labouring under the misconception that lots of people want loads of passing and step overs. As many people as there is who go to the match to be entertained first and see the team win second, there's as many, if not more, who simply want to go and see their team win. And if they have to win ugly, then so be it
We'll have to agree to disagree over his managerial career because it's never to win trophies. No matter what the league.I'm not impressed by his managerial career to be honest. Won stuff where he should be winning things, did alright-ish elsewhere. There was a reason he ended up at Southampton.
That said, I dont give a toss what he has done elsewhere. I only care about what he does at Everton which I think realistically we all do.
