Ronald Koeman discussion

I love the way "transition season" has become the on fleek phrase on this thread.

It reminds me of the early days of pop music when bands tried getting serious and were making "concept albums" to describe their transition from regular rock to some perceived higher art form of the genre :pint2:

Sergeant Pepper, Pet Sounds, Tommy, Ogden's Nutgone Flake, Beggar's Banquet etc. :)

Like the way when Martinez trained out Moyes's defending practice and we see the real Martinez in his 2nd and 3rd season. It takes time to put his theory in practice with his team.

Its comical, you have people claiming they wanna be like Klopp.

Totally ignoring that hes had 18months to shape the club how he wants, the tactics, the players and thats with a club that has spent a vast sum of money on players the last 5 years.

"Omelettes, eggs. No eggs, no omelettes. And it depends on the quality of the eggs in the supermarket. They are class one, two or three and some are more expensive than others and some give you better omelettes. When the class one eggs are not available you have a problem."

We are a team that has finished 11th for 2 seasons, not a single pot in 21 long god years, yet people think just cos Ronny is paid 6m a season he can just walk in and click his fingers.

No, he needs time, he needs players, talented players that want to achieve, players that fit into the system he wants to play.

Hes been in the job for 6months and had 1 utterly failure of a window, give him another 2 windows, then lets see if we have made progress 12months from now, judge him after a fair crack of the whip rather than after 5minutes.

I agree with you about Williams. A very good signing indeed.

I disagree about Bolasie......leaving aside Niasse, Bolasie is possibly the worst value signing we have ever made, considering the price IMO.

It is no accident we started picking up points again almost from the moment he was injured when we trailed Manchester United.

Sorry :(

Deciding he is the worst value signing we have ever made after 4 months? I'm sorry, I can't take your opinion seriously on that short term, shallow minded basis.

and look at the teams above us, MILES better squads

I am not one who wants Koeman gone, because I do think he is a good manager and he needs several windows to bring in his players and shape the team in his vision. That does not mean there arent legitimate issues and concerns. I do people have a right to be less than thrilled with the quality of matches put on display. While we have been getting better results than last season we have also played some truly dreadful looking football. I am not talking about shutting down a team and winning 1-0 a la Mourinho, but more of looking sloppy not stringing together passes, playing as a cohesive unit but stumbling to a 1-0 win (like this past Monday). Some of this is on the players but halfway through the season you would think Koeman would have gotten more consistent performances. If you watched Southampton the past few years and watch us play this season, we do not play like a Koeman team. This is more dissapointing than a full on blame.

However, my biggest cause for concern is we are halfway through the season and Koeman does not seem to know who his best squad is or the best formation. I could understand feeling out the team in the beginning and doing some experimenting, or even having some weak spots in the lineup due to the squad quality, but all of this inconsistency is not helping us play to our best. Fortunately it seems that he is starting to figure things out. The past few games show that he recognizes that we play better when we have two engines in the midfield and Barry is on the bench. We are also seeing that we are disjointed in linking the midfield to the attack with Barkley out of the lineup.

I think Koeman's talent will show itself by the end of the season but he is far from blameless and I can understand some fans frustrations (although naturally there are plenty who I think go overboard with the criticism).
