Ronald Koeman discussion

Not really mate, just can't be bothered with folk who gave Martinez 3 years but won't give Koeman 6 months.

A manager cant be judged on what has come before him. He has to be judged on his own merits.

Saying he should be sacked after 12 games is madness. Questioning some of his comments/decisions etc is perfectly fair game though I reckon.

Meant to include Mori as well, good spot, yeah Mori will go on and have a decent career and we may turn a profit on him (more due to his argie International status rather than anything done in this league though), but just doesn't look suited to this league at all, bit like Collochini was awful for Newcastle and mistake prone, whilst good internationally and when in Spain. Mori is the definition of a youtube defender, scores some bullet headers, now and again will score a long ranger and makes some nice video tackles where he slides in etc, but overall his game is full of holes.

Nail on the head about Deulofeu, all the talent in the world but also massively flawed player - which is why he will bust out here, did so at Sevilla and got overlooked at Barca compared to much less talented players of the same age.

Bolasie i had doubts over, still have them, but he's the most productive player outside of Lukaku in the squad, and at least someone you think could do something whenever he gets the ball unlike Delefeu, Mirallas, Cleverley or Lennon.

Mori is a HIT if only for the £9.5mil turning into £15-20mil if we sell him (which i assume we will in the summer).

Mirallas (Moyes), Deulofeu, Cleverley and Lennon we should also make a profit on each (dont forget clev was free)....Bolasie would need to be another Kanchelskis for the money.

In fairness, Del this time last year was in good form and did some magical things.

However, he just seems to have lost that since January.

That miss vs City in the league cup final is the time I remember his form dipping since.

McCarthy, Deulofeu, Galloway and Holgate have not been hits mate

McCarthy had one good season and two and a bit poor ones - would we get what we paid for him back? If he had been a success and at his age now (his peak) then you would figure we would make a substantial profit if he had been one - even counting for the huge inflation in transfer fees you'd be looking at 30m+ if he'd been a hit - we would barely manage to recoup his fee - and it will be at a club desperate and a bottom half team - players who are hits tend to move up when they leave at there peak not down

Deulofeu - would any big club take him from us should we let him go or would he basically go the Bojan route of any tp flight club desperate for an ex Barca wonderkid as a short term boost for the fans - he has failed here sad to say, much like he failed at Sevilla, the lad will be very unlikely to ever make it at a club that plays in Europe regularly

Galloway - one good spell over about a dozen games, a badly failed loan move at a team which isn't that good and gonna end up being sent back from West Brom early - a team that prioritizes being able to defend - doesn't bode well for the lad long term

Holgate - far too early to say - seen a lot of young players play a few games for Everton and look decent who never ever made it, will say that long term he could well prove to be a great signing but can't call a player a hit who is not even playing for us now
I agree with your analysis, Steve. I think Deulofeu is my biggest disappointment, thought he was going to do great things for us but he just can't seem to kick on, and, unfortunately, think he will be on his way next summer.

£25mil isn't all that anymore Zat, people really need to accept that.

Not to say that we shouldn't be demanding better from him or better players overall, and there are still bargains to be had but, Troy Deeney, £30mil bid turned down.

This is football in England now. Newcastle spent close to £60mil this transfer window just gone, just to get them back in the big time.

All your opinion of course, which TBF is massively prejudiced against the manager as you want him to fail so badly.

Out of those 4 you have written about, no reason at all to question the signing of Williams. Bolasie is another you are desperate to fail so badly, just because you can say "i told you so" yet bizarrely you want to give more and more chances to Deulofeu as he is your pretty little poster boy, without any sense of irony at all from you.

Strange behaviour from a grown man.

I want them all to succeed...note that i predicted a 6-0 win against Swansea.

Deulofeu in the same amount of games last season that bolasie has had this season was top draw.

I mean...we could have signed a damn superstar for that amount or close enough to it...theres no need for a bloke who may be successful for 5mins a game when we could have signed a top player for the left.

He had that spell a year ago Zat where he looked like he could be the world-class player he has the potential to be.

But he hasn't kicked on.

And while he was badly used by RM at times and could have been played more by Koeman, there also is the factor that he perhaps just doesn't have it in him.

I'm not saying I want to get rid, I love Gerri.

I'd have him starting vs Saints but, for the love of God, he needs to start doing something when he comes on/is given the start.

No we couldn't have signed a superstar though Zat. That was my point.

We could have signed a player from abroad who may or may not have settled in the league.

Koeman and Walsh wanted somebody who fit the mould of a pacey, strong attacker. Someone who would settle quickly and who offers a different dimension to our play than our other wingers, who all rely on nothing but pace (and Kev isn't even that quick anymore), but have no strength or desire to rush the defence.

For all of Bolasie's faults (and there are plenty) he works hard, he closes down and he is always looking to get into good positions. Hence, he's always the one who is involved in our attacks, whereas Lennon, Kev and Del seem happy to hang on the edges.

I think he needs 3 starts and some love from koeman then he will be back to his best...these cameos are useless for him.
