Romelu Lukaku

Martinez isn't utilising him too his strengths, simply the case.

The lad has got a worst first touch then a virgin, stop playing him as a back to goal link up striker.

It isn't working and hasn't worked for a year.

What I found strange from yesterdays performance was that he constantly called for the ball to be put behind the Watford defence into the channels. In the second half, Cleverley and Barry did exactly that and he hardly worked for it.

He was poor yesterday, either way you look at it. But one game is one game.

Add Coleman, Baines, Jags, McCarthy, Barry, Barkley, Mirallas to that list.

Lot of players not being used correctly or suited to the setup/style.

Replace them all or replace one man?

Lukaku is a big, strong lad who seemingly prefers the ball played in front of him so he can run the channels, pressure defenders and get into shooting positions.
He is not an archetypal centre forward nor is he a lone striker, it simply is not his game.
So we either have to play two up top as we did for 20 mins yesterday when the shape looked much better, though without slagging Kone off, hopefully with a better striker than he is... or we have to play the ball forward quicker to Rom and get players up there to support him without the over elaboration of too many passes that inevitably lead to us losing possession.
He might not have been 100% fit yesterday, but at times he looked lost, disinterested, and yes, lazy.

Rom is a tough one really. He frustrates me.

We really are in trouble against teams that park the bus. Rom becomes pretty much useless. Nice pass yesterday though.
His game opens in counterattacking games.

Cure is obvious. He needs a feeder. Cause we wont be changing our basic system cause of him. He also needs to tape cotton balls on his boots for softening his first touch

That's the way I see it too, his strength is running in behind the defence (except for yesterday, 1 instance he just watched a ball go past he could have chased) teams park the bus and he's very ineffective.

How do you draw the defence forward though, will it just be this magical number 10 that can solve this and get Rom firing again or is Rom a big part of the problem being too static and not dragging defenders away and allowing space for other players ?

So many questions...

2 up top doesn't work as a week in week out formation. To many teams would dominate the midfield. That's the reason that no one plays that way anymore, other than to spring a suprise or later on in a game.

Of course it's an option but it's not the solution.

Play 2 the strengths of the players. 4-3-3 with 1 holding is clearly our best suited option currently. And play through to lukaku not through him!

Hopefully injuries made that impossible yesterday not Roberto's tactical nous.

Oh and the kind of magical No.10 people are now expecting as the savour.....

We could never afford that player.

Of course we can. Coutinho cost them under £10m, and there's a load of talent across Europe we've all barely heard of that a decent scouting network can unearth - we got Arteta for basically nothing at the time doing that, and then there's the more notable names like Shaqiri who might be a good solution for under £15m.

Mega money isn't needed; just players who are round pegs going into round holes instead of shoehorning players in to a system they either can't play in or don't play in that position.

We need someone in the Herrara mould, someone who can push forward and tidy up around the hot mess Barkley often creates when trying to dribble around the opposition.

From watching Goals On Sunday, the way Swansea played vs Chelsea to make chances for Gomis is exactly how we should be playing to make chances for Rom. Cutbacks and defence splitting balls all over the place.
