The thing with Lukaku is he was saying Champions League all last season, and as soon as Chelsea were well out of contention he changed it to "a team challenging for Champions League places." Now he is talking about Champions League again. He has his heart set on going to Chelsea, God knows why after they flogged him and his mate de Bruyne like one of their little victims already palmed off out on loan. It's going to be hard to replace him but it is doable, and I won't hate him, he has gave us good service while he has been here.

I reckon there's a good chance he's holding off on the contract indefinitely now until we can prove to him unequivocally that we mean real business. You can argue that gives us the summer window plus the outcome of the EL qualifiers to do so.

If we don't do big business early in the summer and subsequently easy through to the Europa group stages then that could (and, arguably, should) be the final straw for him.

I'm nobody mate. Another fella asked me what I would have done if I was on the board, which given I am being critical is a fair enough comment.

I would not have handled it much better. However I am not paid a whopping salary like Elstone to manage these situations.
