Roman Abramovich hands over ‘stewardship and care’ of Chelsea football club

Chelsea fans pretending they were bigger than City before the Roman are just kidding themselves.
You won’t find many Chelsea fans claiming we were or are bigger than City, however our recent history of performances on the pitch (say last 30 years) has been overall better than yours. Pre-late 90s City were historically considerably more successful than us, but that isn’t a great boast if you compare our histories with the Saint & Greavsie Big 5 ( Liverpool, Everton, Utd, Arsenal, Spurs - ok maybe not Spurs). It’s all relative anyway.

Selling for £3b, not asking for loans to be repaid and all 'net' proceeds go to Ukranian carity. How much will that work out?

Chelsea face the prospect of returning to their usual level pre RA.

Why ? They now have a big enough global fanbase (and thus revenue) to sustain themselves as one of the top sides in the country, plus no club can really spend insane money anymore anyway because of FFP.

The all time top flight table since football began has City sitting just above Chelsea but there is nothing in it.

I’ve never understood all the ‘bigger’ arguments. If you’re a boreham wood fan they’re your be all and end all and for you are the only club in the world you give one about and therefore the ‘biggest’. Their history means more to you etc.
It's all nonsense. Same as the argument that our titles are meaningless because of insert reason here. They aren't meaningless to us.

There’s not even an objective way to measure it. Total trophies? Then a club from a European league who win it every single season could claim they’re the biggest (e.g. Celtic bigger than United and Liverpool). Recent trophies? Liverpool and a United would be left behind by the likes of Chelsea and City, Arsenal would be nowhere. Stadium size? Who knew Newcastle were one of the biggest clubs in England.

It’s just a complete made up moniker by the usual two rotting corpses of English football in United and Liverpool in their never ending pursuit of trying to banter other fans. It’s completely pointless.

Apparently he bought the club for ~£150M. He’s not asking for the loan to be repaid, but will surely get it back out of the sale price. That would still theoretically leave £1.35B net.
