The UK government truly dropped the ball here by going after their 3rd most lucrative club in the league. Roman Abramovich may deserve to be sanctioned but the fans, the players and the staff of Chelsea deserve none of this. The UK government showing very little compassion here. Very disappointing.

You think a football club - which is tiny in financial terms - is central to any decision making? This is a political manoeuvre by the UK Government; the success or failure of a sporting operation is small potatoes. Compassion isn’t a consideration at this stage.

The club can receive broadcast fees and merit payments but those must then be frozen. That feels significant? How can they run the club without broadcast fees? Will sky etc even be able to show their games?

I think this is an interesting point which the media haven’t really expanded on…

On the BBC website it says, “Broadcasters can broadcast any fixture involving the club.” Which I assumed meant companies like BBC and ITV could broadcast them for free, but I’m guessing not if they can still receive broadcast fees.
