" Robertos change of tactic"

Positivity is usually a plus and I do think we have improved - especially in defence. However, it takes no more than a little run of wins or a little run of defeats for a team to move about the table like a ping pong ball in a bingo machine. We are hovering at the moment and we need wins to get away from the relegation candidates. Id only rubbish mention of the R word when we have the luxury of the points in the bag...and at present we haven't. The reality is that we are only a win and two draws - points wise - above the bottom four...not my kind of cushion.
Given our performances since Christmas and the fact that we are getting to the point where we can put our strongest team out a few weeks running, I think we are better placed than pretty much all the teams below us (and one or two above) to put a bit of a run together.
All teams have their ups and downs during the season. We've had more than our fair share of downs so far and we still mange to be in 12th. With the performances in the last few games we've been showing greater solidity, continuity and above all confidence. This also is a lot more than the majority of teams below us are showing.

Lovin that piece on the home page quotiing Jags as stating that the final third is sloppy. If he hadn't been so sloppy for the first third of the season we wouldn't be in this position and playing with a fear that's preventing chances being created in sufficient numbers.

I do not believe that relegation is a factor.
Look at the games we have to play between now and the end of the season and see if we can average a point a game from those .
You can look at stats. in two different ways. I choose to look at performances and results over the last half a dozen games which have included the top two in the league as well as the Mersey Derby. We have been desperately unlucky not the get something from all three.

We have McCarthy back from a long term injury, Stones has settled well after a long term injury, Howard back after a long term injury, Barkley just starting to show a little of what he can do and of course we have signed Lennon who has already shown he brings something different to the team

This is what he should play now.

McCarthy Besic

Lennon Ross/Kone Mirallas

Lukaku

That is an absolutely storming formation full of balance, there is no place for Naismith anymore, he's just not good enough in the final third to keep attacks going, impact sub he is, not a starter.

Might struggle at the back there lid.

Because he's only just changed it mate.

Agreed there mate, arguably we should have dug in months ago. But that's what I mean, it seems like lots of people have turned after last night but we're actually doing OK. 4 points from the RS at home, Chelsea away and a top form Palace away should be seen as light at the end of the tunnel.

Its an improvement but its just that. Until we start winning games it will be just that and mean nothing.

Although he's changed it now with 14 games left you have to ask why didn't he sooner? Yes he's realized we're not Wigan and had to shore us up (Moyes esque dare I say)but were also not winning games neither and his past how many games prove that.So we stay up (we hope) then what weres the middle ground? We get messi to teach lukaku? We ask Chelsea/city how they always win games often?

Obviously ( we don't) but I'm stating here that
Only Roberto knows what's changed from last season to this and it must be addressed for the future.
Lukaku's Hercules issue..

Eto'o MUST have been a problem.

Distin looks to have been a problem too...

What's happened to Kone btw? He was good against Newcastle, and hasn't been seen since.

He's admitted he's still in a lot of pain playing, he's clearly not fully over a terrible injury and the only reason he got the game at Newcastle was Lukaku was in need of a much needed break. He's only capable of cameo roles at the moment it seems.

Yet we were told in the transfer window that he was fully fit and raring to go and therefore we did not need to bring another striker in to replace Eto'o.

More Bobby Bullshine then.

I don't remember the fully fit quote to be fair, but yeah he said we could cope with him back and Lukaku, Naismith and Mirallas.

But it wouldn't be the first time he's been economical with the truth.
