I believe the question set was achievemnt in 'footballing terms'.

The answer is an unqualified yes.

I for one was worried that he'd be pulled down by having to educate a fanbase that had forgotten what good football was all about. Well, if he said that he got his method across to his players in 7 weeks, I'm amazed to say he got it over to our fans in a handful of months.

It appears Dave was the only one, as well as nigelcoyb to actually read the question.

I specially didn't mention _HIM_ to provoke discussion surrounding football styles.

Has he 'achieved' more in footballing terms & progress in 7 months than the previous 10 years?

Moyes took a much less talented team (though in a much less talented league) and took them to 4th. Assuming we'll be in Europe next year (unless Sunderland has something to do with it) the real test is going to be next year when an insane fixture list will come and Lukaku probably won't be around.

As far being pleasing to watch, we've had some periods in which we we played some sick stuff under Moyes. Even last year we were dominating in possession often, its just Jelavic forget to send his monthly payment to Lucifer for continued success.

That 4th place was more down to the rest being awful, we only managed 61 points that year. He had better years in the league including the last one. I think moyes gets too much stick i.e. the not winning away to top four thing is cherry picking as we have routinely battered city and spurs at their grounds after they became "top" clubs. We also played some brilliant football at times, does anyone remember newcastle at the end of 2012 for example.

The main problem with moyes comes from the fa cup final, from that point we were a club that played with fear in most matches where anything was at stake. Roberto has in his short time here disspelled that fear which i dont think can be underestimated, so in that sense yes he has achieved more. Results wise of course he hasnt, but the fact that we expect and not hope for that to change means a great deal.

Let's see Martinez bring a paper thin squad of utter gash and a club in turmoil reeling from the loss of one of England's greatest ever players, widely predicted to finish 20th, to fourth place. Now that was an achievement.

Moyes was the man to pass the baton to Martinez and he did a superb job of bringing us from the brink of relegation to the edge of the big time. No one has even threatened to do what he managed, in recent times. It just doesn't happen nowadays. He was a crucial part in our recent development, but at the end he was struggling with the last step and perhaps it was time for everyone to move on, as long as we got our next appointment spot on.

Martinez has done so much right so far, but he has to keep it up. That's going to be difficult and it might not work out in the long term, but I think he can do it. Time will tell. It's too early to really judge his "achievements" here though.

he has made me believe that perserverance pay's off and that changing your game plan to suit the game is showing that you are brave to realise the mistakes you have made.

No..
People need to not get ahead of themselves, getting for too carried away.

This - bobbys magic could well disappear next season or even later this season.

Think Pardew last season.

I doubt it will happen but to say he is better than moyes after 5 months is laughable and a little disrespectful

In terms of our technical play, which I guess is what the OP is speaking of, we've moved forward very rapidly. Aside from the development of the Baines-Pienaar partnership on the left, our style hadn't changed at all for five or six years under Moyes. Getting the more experienced players in the squad, especially the likes of Jags and Distin, to very quickly adapt to a different notion of what to do with a football is quite an achievement.

Martinez has also been successful in very quickly identifying the aspects of the team that were limiting us, most clearly a lack of movement in midfield. We change direction a lot more than we used to, and pretty much every player is more comfortable keeping possession until the correct pass presents itself. It was a constant frustration that the previous coaching staff failed to remedy our unimaginative and static midfield.

I honestly can't remember how long it took Moyes to move on from the horrorball we played under Smith, but in that case I think it was much more about a drastic change in personnel, as he inherited a far worse squad.

We can see Martinez stamp on the team already, this is not a moyes team anymore, we have Lukaku, James Mcarthy and Barry added to the line up now, we also have Barkley, we have kept Moyes back line but that it. I do prefer this midfield to Moyes midfield.

Not even close, the difference in playing style under Martinez whilst great and beautiful, is not even close to the difference between what Moyes handed over to Martinez and what Moyes took over.

People either forget just how bad we were in pre-Moyes, or refuse to give credit to how good we were in 2013.

Y'know Roberto is pretty bloody good about our history and that?

Dya reckon he stayed up all night the day before his interview revising it, or do you reckon he just knew it all already?

I reckon when he walked through the Goodison gates, he just gained it by osmosis.
