Roberto Martinez still thinks Everton are part of the relegation battle.

It's also a slight possibility that Liverpool could win the league...

Just because something is 'slightly possible' doesn't make it worth pointing out. We need to win three out of our last 13 to virtually guarantee safety. They need to win four just to catch us. Won't happen.

Liverpool are 21 points behind the leaders. We're 12 points above the bottom 3. Not to mention that, obviously, the teams at the top will pick up far more points.

So that's a pretty gash comparison mate.

And to be honest, it probably is worth pointing out as a manager of a team in the bottom 3. It's a way of instilling hope to his players and the fans, basically saying 'if we keep at it and pick up points, then there are loads of teams who could drop them and fall down the table'. It's a way of saying that the relegation battle is wide open, and that as such Wigan's fate isn't sealed.

The Liverpool comment was a remark off the top of my head, no need to pick it apart as if i was being serious. ;)

Take a look at teams like Chelsea and Arsenal, whose managers have both come out and said that the league is probably beyond them, for an example of being realistic.

We're only 12 points above the bottom 3, but they've only managed 20 points all season, so it's all relative. But as i said, it was simply an example of what is 'possible'.

As Rufus said below, its really not a comment worth getting bothered about tbh.

Plus your title is midleading, he didn't say we are still in a relegation battle, just that we are one of several teams in the league who haven't reached the 40 point safety net yet and if we go on a poor run of form we could start to worry.

Title of the article:

'Thirteen clubs still face drop - Martinez'
'ROBERTO Martinez believes as many as 13 clubs are still involved in the Premier League relegation battle.'
Facing the drop, battling relegation. If anything the article is misleading. I took my title from their article.

But whatever, i'm not really bothered about it, just think it's rubbish. You two seem to be more bothered about it if anything :P

The article is misleading but Death said "he didn't say".

And he didn't.

So then my title isn't misleading, as it was just to serve as an indication of the article's content, and seeing as it was more or less a direct quote from the article.

SEMANTICS.

You posted the article and then said "rubbish". Unless you were calling the article rubbish, which I doubt, you were having a go at Martinez.

The article is misleading and so your title is misleading. You were mislead and have consequently mislead others.

Martinez has said nothing wrong.

He looks upset. Say sorry to the lovely little fella.

Nope. He's still a bit of a numpty for even considering the possibility that we could go down. Bad, bad comment.

I used to like him, but now he's in my naughty boy book.

Have you got Damonitis?

You said something stupid. It's okay to admit you've been stupid.

This is what he actually said, word for word:

“I always look at the points tally, and I still feel it will be between 36 and 39 points to avoid relegation,â€￾ Martinez told the Evening Post.

“That is a little bit less than last year, but even the teams that have already reached the 30-point mark and have a very good cushion can’t afford to sit back on their laurels. As we know, six points in the Premier League can be very difficult to achieve, and any team is capable of going on a bad run as we have already seen.

“So I would say that any team that hasn’t got at least 36 points on the board could still be looking at this being a very long end to the season.â€￾

What there is wrong? He's saying teams without 36 points (the theoretical minimum he's predicted for survival) can't rest on their laurels. Each manager of those teams would agree. He then just reaffirms that and says any team without those points already could be looking at it being a long end to the season.

Face it, you read the article title, assumed that was what he actually was saying, and now you're back-tracking. You know what they say... don't assume, or you'll make an ass out of you...rself you gigantic back-tracking bulb.

I read the article title and then i read the article. Saying we'll have a very long end to the season (thus intimating that we're candidates for relegation) is rubbish. In my opinion.

We'll have a long season ahead because we're badly gash, not because we may get relegated. I can't even see Wigan winning enough games to catch us if we didn't get a single point from now until the end of the season.

Calm down brosef.
