Is there a chance that Martinez might go to Malaga?

I mean he went to Spain this weekend. Came back, then resigned.

Just a thought.

Thoroughly underwhelmed.

not the worst appointment but a manager that's just been relegated and whose highest finish is 15th screams lack of ambition.

I look forward to his initial press conference when he will announce what a massive club Everton are and how he is relishing this challenge, in his sexy Spanish accent.

I already have wood.

I think what Dave Whelan has said there is pretty definitive mate.

I'm going to try my best not to be too negative about this, but it's difficult, especially when you take on board we're actually paying money to bring Martinez here.

Could be worse. Of course he's just got Wigan relegated, but at the same time he kept them in the league for a while with an awful team and has won more in the last 10 years than we have.

Some dodgy signings, but let's not forget that here he can pay players 5x as much and will be a more attractive prospect due to having a better team and being a far bigger club. Plus I imagine our scouting team will remain generally the same.

Wigan's defence has been awful, yes, but we've got Jagielka/Distin to their Caldwell/Boyce and Baines to their Espinoza, so individual mistakes will be reduced and we'll have better defensive specialist coaches I reckon. If there's still issues we could appoint Weir to specifically look after defensive issues.

His teams have played a good style of football and he seems like a nice, honest guy which isn't the most important thing but is still good.

All in all I'd have maybe preferred one or two of the other names mentioned but I'm quite happy with this. For those who aren't - say what you like on forums, but keep it here, eh? Be as positive as possible at the game as no good can come from our manager being slated to his face. And remember: at least it's not Mark Hughes.

I can't disagree with anything you've said. Is right.

Whelan says a lot of things mate.

Did you know he broke his leg once?

1. Everton a whole lot stronger than 2002 and who was overwhelmed by Moyes at the time as the choice?

2. Totally outplayed us at the JJB and for most of the game at Goodison. Thoroughly walloped us in the Cup (suckering us with news of his intent to plsy a weakened side). The fact that our Eleven are stronger meant we got 4 points out of them.

I wouldn't be so quick to criticise - it isn't as if Wigan going down was a huge shock.

Has alot more experience than Moyes did when he came. Alot of people are only happy when they are moaning, the same people that moaned about our style of football under moyes and dismissed talk of him for United job as laughable.

Are now slating Martinez who will undoubtedly, have us playing more expansive football. I am looking forward to it.

Didn't Joe Royal get relegated with Oldham and then come back to Everton and win us the F.A. Cup? Getting relegated as a manager doesn't always make you a failure. Benitez, Wenger and others have all experienced the drop early in their careers.
