He’d fit right in to the current Labour Party.

He would be so far above the vast majority of politicians in a current leadership role, from all parties, that using the word politician to describe them feels like an insult. I can only think of a handful of MPs who have one of his good qualities (personal bravery, personal discipline, independent thought and action, business ability, leadership ability, discretion, tolerance, patience, prudence, ruthlessness, talent) never mind several of them.

It is very sad to think that, within living memory for some, there was a time that he was the PM and Eisenhower was the US President. How far we have all fallen.

It isn't the people that are the issue (or lack thereof) the very idea of public service has been perverted. Once the big gig was realised as a jolly on the expense of a nation it was inevitable that the locust of self serving scum would go all out for it. The top position has more in common with regality now than it being a position to enact good for the benefit of as close to all as you can cut it. Gekkonomics. Greed is good. I'm alright Jack. trump and trumpism (I don't believe he'll be the last of his type) seems a quite natural next step.
