Very sorry to hear of the passing of Jurgen Klopp's mother, Elisabeth. Our thoughts and prayers are with him at this very difficult time, which is made even harder by the fact that he will not be able to attend her funeral. RIP.

Yes, there is an unutterable cruelty at being deprived of the chance to attend her funeral. Understandable, but very very harsh.

Those are the toughest of tough circumstances.

I presume it's the travelling between Britain and Germany that's the problem, not the physical act of being at the funeral. My cousin's funeral last week was attended by his immediate family and a bunch of other people.

I have absolutely no problem with people offering condolences, but what’s the need to make excuses for his behaviour because of it? He is who he is as a person, he hasn’t changed one bit. Of course the news about his mother is awful and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I genuinely and sincerely offer my sympathies to him and his family. But the link between this and his recent behaviour in interviews is just simply not there, and there’s no need for people to bring it up.
