Right Back .. Right Now!

Interesting thought. Osman does go into the pitch quite alot, that's when he gets dangerous for the most part. With a good RM that holds his position on the flank, Hibbert might get more help and not be placed in a troublesome situation as often as he is.

A little like Naysmith were when we had Stubbs/Weir in the middle. When we got Yobo in there instead, Naysmith improved as well. Not enough to earn a continuing here, but still.

I am sure that would help, but in every match there would be time when RB has to sort out the danger on his own, if Baines could do it on the left, then we should expect same on the right as well.

It just shows we have reach the stage where Hibbert are no longer good enough to be our first choice starting RB, we needed someone better and at the same time we need another winger

Oh, I agree that we should try and get both a new RB and a new RM, but while a new RB won't affect how Osman plays as RM, a new RM can improve Hibbert.

But a new RM/RW might improve the team more than a new RB does.

Hibbert is [Poor language removed]!
He's championship quality at best. You only have to look at Baines on the otherside to see everything Hibbert lacks- reading of the game, and a willingness to go on the overlap and attack.

You watch every team target our right flank this season.

Hibbert will start against Arsenal but he won't be the preferred RB by years end. His game has been sussed out. I expect Moyes to get it right after losing Naughton to Spurs. He won't have ichy fingers untill he gets the right person in. Who that is only he knows that one.

wah so many hibbert apologists! he is at best a mediocre defender.. yeah a good lad and all that we know.. but he's m-e-d-i-o-c-r-e. this is a big season for us and mediocre won't cut it.

his positioning is woeful, distribution poor and his ability to spearhead/support attacks is decreasing as his confidence drains.. maybe if some of the responsibility is taken from his shoulders he can find some of his game again..

anyway the main concern is how vulnerable we are down the right flank. teams will be on to it and exploit us. not only will they know that little or no serious threat comes down that wing but that's where to go to hurt us.

right now we're beginning to look like an unbalanced side and thats not good news a week before the season kicks off. it needs fixing and fast.

i'd prefer to see him dropped and move neville in there until we get the right player.

Until Moyes buys a new RB and RM we should stick by both players, these two lads want to play for the club and do their best!! I am not staying they are good players but they are the best we have at the moment. I do think we need to buy for these postions and if we do then we will have a very good back up and may improve them as players.(y)(y)

As several teams did last season. Villa (Hibbert off at HT after being ripped by Young), and the Cup Final for example.

I agree with this too. RB is the priority. Neville in there, with Rodwell DM till it's sorted. Moyes is obviously trying to address it hence Naughton bid, but unfortunately the Lescott situation is a distraction at the moment.

Watched the Malaga game. Hibbert is a player fit for a mid-table Championship team. I am absolutely astounded that here we are a week from kick-off and Hibbert is still our first choice right-back.

What happened to that miguel lad from valencia? Any more news there?

I'd say a center back is our priority now. Neville's a right back worst comes to worst, and provided we can keep him lescott can play lb. Fact of the matter is we have 6 defenders - baines (only left back) Jags (out til autumn at the earliest) yobo (ill atm) lescott (on his way out?) Hibbert (unsung hero alot of the time) and phil nev who Moyes prefers in midfield! Not good!
