I find it surprising that Richarlison signing for us was given such negative coverage by the media.
Last year, just 20 and in a completely new country he showed glimpses of what real talent he had.
His form was patchy... and still a very young player I think we will see that as well this season. He lost Silva as manager and there seems to be a trust between them which possibly explains how we were able to prise him away from Watford.
However, very few of the pundits seemed to recognise the potential that clearly appears to be there. I think the only uncertainty is just exactly how good he can become.
With Pundits and the so called experts it also makes a difference who signs you. Shaqiri was shocking for Stoke and when we were linked all the papers were talking about what a terrible player he was, what a waste of money he’d be and all that. The RS sign him and it’s astute business and he’s a gem of a player.
Richarlison was linked with United and Chelsea the first half of last season and that was fine, the 40m price being thrown around was acceptable for a young raw talent. When it’s us though we’ve overpaid and ruined the market.
It’ll take a while and we’ll need to actually achieve something to change that opinion.
