Macclesfield Town have announced midfielder Richard Butcher has died at the age of 29.
Butcher used to play for Northampton, Rushden, Kettering, Lincoln, Oldham, Peterborough, Notts County and Lincoln.
A club statement read: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce the untimely death of Richard Butcher.
"He passed away at his home in Manchester overnight [on Sunday]. He was an exemplary professional and a thoroughly likeable young man."
The statement added: "Our thoughts are with his wife and family at this very difficult time."


Butcher joined the Silkmen in the summer on a two-year deal following a successful loan spell.
No details have been given regarding his death.
The League Two club also suffered tragedy in March 2010 when manager Keith Alexander died

One or two more I can't remember who died in their 20's. A very sad part of football this.

Good men are taken away very soon. R.I.P once again.
