The Israeli national team is not the Israeli government

Sport shouldn't involve politics

If fans protest during the game the FAI will probably be fined.
What's the alternative?

Israel shouldn't even be in UEFA in the first place
A very large Bohemian banner on the empty terrace behind one of the goals at Dalymount tonight ' Show Israel the Red Card'.

No action taken by anyone, Bohs officials nor match officials, nor by the Gardai, rightly in my view as a Rovers fan.

Live coverage of the match on Virgin- it was a high profile Dublin derby match

No doubt the Israeli Embassy, Parliament, UEFA, FIFA, FAI, Keir Starmer, Donald Trump will be looking for heads!!!

Russian and Belarusian teams are also not Russian or Belarusian Governments.

Sport at international level is very much political, it's why international sports exist really. Projection of national power and so on.

Uefa haven't a leg to stand on really, Israeli FA are already in contravention on a number of Uefa and FIFA rules.

Already said it should be a fan boycott. Empty stands can't be ignored or allow false accusations to be made and it can't be punished.

As for only being players, did any of the Israeli players go to prison to avoid service in the IDF.

Different times then. The current government is terrified of the Occupied Territories Bill passing in the Dail and just about anything else that requires a spine. Monty Burns is contemptuous of any questioning especially if it's from a female, and as for the Sports minister a corner flag has more charisma and intelligence, he definitely thinks 'soccer' is for the plebs.

We have drawn them in the nations league. Game isn't for another nine months but it is already dominating all discussion here. The build up to the world cup playoff in Prague is likely to be dominated by this topic as well.

The FAI have already announced that the game will go ahead in Dublin, but the closer it gets, the more likely it becomes that there will be massive opposition to it, and the security concerns are something that won't have been seen here in a sporting context in a long time.

Like most people, I don't think we should play them but there is a part of me that says, turn your back on their flag, boo their national anthem, and make them play 90 mins in an atmosphere that they have never felt before. A cauldron of pro Palestinian fervor that is then beamed around the world.

So what say you, play it or not?
If it goes ahead their fans will come cause a load of hassle and shouts of antisemitism will be squealed on the media and from world leaders. We've seen this movie before. Exactly what happened in Amsterdam
I don't think we should play them, not only because Irelands stance agai st the genocide is clear but also that I think they should be banned from all events.
Even the Russian ballet was banned and they didnt invade anyone
The double standard makes me sick when it comes to Israel. I truly despise their playing victim while shooting children in the head who are trying to get aid.

Still annoys the hell out of me that one call from the US about that bill saying under US law, US companies can't participate in a boycott unless sanctioned by the US. It was immediately put on the back burner.
What should've happened is 'that's your law, you don't have to prosecute them, this is our law and our jurisdiction.'
I know it's easier said than done when I'm not the one it would fall back on but it still boils my piss tbh

Were you against South Africa being banned from international cricket during the apartheid years as well?

Of course i can understand people having issues with the Israeli government and IDF etc, but Ireland will be playing Qatar at some point as well after the Israel game. I doubt we'll hear any commotion about that however but the following here from another site fully represents my thoughts on this matter.

Im sure you actually mean well but the vast majority in this country just dont view last years conflict in the Middle East as a topic of concern. Last weeks Sunday Independent Ireland thinks polls has just 3% viewing Gaza as a priority.

The game isnt until September and the coverage is already blanket level.

In a two week period after Christmas 40,000 Iranians were gunned down on the streets yet the press here are just fixated on Israel and a conflict thats been over since last October.

The complete lack of similar protests and political opposition in Kosovo and Austria just goes to show Ireland is an outlier on this.

The game will go ahead , I think we've done enough damage already to our international reputation with our continued Israel bashing.

I just hope the Irish people don’t turn on their own football association, in that part of Ireland the FAI.

Like Aston Villa and the West Midland police last autumn, they have been put in this position by the real culprit here, UEFA.

Israeli teams, both national and club, should never have been playing in European competition in the first place as it is not a European country.

And when they started razing Gaza over two years ago now, they should have been kicked out.

Simple as.

The 1225 killed by Hamas on Oct 7 2024 might disagree with this statement.
It happened because they were given a state not denied one as well. As i say I can understand people having issues with the IDF and Israeli government etc, but hopefully security and policing is on the ball here and that nothing happens to further increase Irelands disgraced and well deserved reputation as the most anti semitic country in Europe.

Are you saying that Israel gave Palestine a state? How do you define a state, a bit of land?
