That's the thing we have no fight and that has been caused by an incoherent transfer policy. DCL was never going to be enough up front for us. Look how well Brentford have done with Toney. If we had a proper striker we wouldn't be in this mess. It's the arrogance of the idiots who have failed to replace Lukaku that's caused this mess. Chelsea struggled as soon as Costa left. The Sheffield United game, when we lost when they had nothing to play for wax when I started to worry about this team. When we lost 5 2 to Watford that should of been the end of Benitez. Agent Benitez did his job aided by our stupid owner.
Totally agree with this, the defeat to Watford has had a massive negative impact.

They didn’t have a horrendous debt though. If we go down the club will non exist in a few years.
We will have to sell 90% of the team and have no money and possibly start with minus points
If you want to live your life worrying about potential doomsday scenarios that you have no way of controlling mate then that's up to you. It's not for me but you do you. Personally I find that just as pointless and tedious as the delusional happy clapping and the blind pretence that every will work put perfectly is.

I always wanted us to play different teams ive not seen us play before, or not played for a long time, i just never expected that it would come if went down, In reality we could even be 5 odd points from getting our relegation next week but you just have to hope which with our players is so hard so much of the time

Unfortunately we would have no option but to sell, but they absolutely would not deserve their moves. It will make me pretty angry to see any of these players making the most of our situation. If anything, they should all be requesting pay cuts to get us back up immediately due to their embarassment.

But back in the real world, I think we are in enormous trouble. The few good players would go for well under what we would have expected to generate in fees. And the rubbish players will try to sit on their wages as long as possible and won't care about how it effects the club.

I don't think they will. Even if so, we'd under cut the fees in relation to wages. Gomes for example would gladly be turfed out for £5mill to keep his £100k a week or even just taking a slight hit on wages.

Richy and Dom would go for £50mill each I feel considering championship players at the same age are going for £30+mill.

Overall we'd have zero grounds for negotiation apart from "we need to get rid" and these players would want out due to their own ego. It's only Mina and Gomes we'd need to get shut of as they're on £100k a week. The rest are either out of contract or on an average prem wage which is sustainable in the championship for a club like ours (based on West ham and Newcastle doing the same).

I wouldn't say we'd go automatic promotion either.

We're going to have to get 10 points to settle this.

Brentford, Palace we have to beat. Watford away we can win. Chelsea at home or Leicester away we can get the last one.

No way Burnley outstrip that and get 11 points form their last 6 .
Agree. What could be crucial as we all know is the goal difference.

Absolutely no chance we get £50m for DCL. If we go down we lose DCL for around £25m and Richy for around £40m.

Time to take it on the chin and move on lads. If we go down then we go down. Life will move on and the vast majority of us will continue to support the club. No one's going to die. I know it's difficult to not be meldomatic (as I'm quite prone to being that why myself after bad results at the best of times!) but we have to start putting things in perspective.

Premier League or Championship or League One or even lower, I support Everton Football Club and despite what some fools are saying, the club isn't dead. I reckon the majority of people feel the same and will continue to support us even if we're sitting thorough the lowest ebb in the clubs entire history. Those who can't take the stick and want to turn in their keys can do one. They where never true fans anyway & we're better off without them.
Great post.

It's not just the players, the biggest culprit in all of this is Moshiri, hiring Benitez was the single most disastrous decision in my time supporting the club and that's 50 years, not only was he not fit to manage and should never have been considered it destroyed the real fabric of the club, the supporters. This error was compounded leaving him in place for so long. The owner has got it so very wrong that it's almost as if it were intended. The club is a laughing stock and everyone other than us is laughing.
I always had the belief that we were popular amongst other club supporters but I realise now that they are now loving the demise of our club and can't wait to see us relegated.
There has definitely been a shift since Moshiri has come in and we have wasted all that money.Nobody sympathises with a club that has had the money but were to incompetent to use it wisely.
As you say we are a laughing stock

We dont have horrendous debt either.

IF we went down we would sell DCL, Richarlison, Pickford and Mina which would more than cover the drop in revenue for 1-2 seasons. You also have over the next 6-18 months a massive amount of high earners off the books - Delph, Siggurdsson, Toshun, Gomes, Gbamin, Allan, Rondon, Townsend.

If Lampard stuck around we have the nucleus of a good young side which if we added to it under the new DOF who's supposedly highly rated then we stand a good chance of coming back up.

Patterson
Mykolenko
Gordon
Branthwaite
Godfrey
Iwobi

Would likely stick around and be more than good enough in that division.

Also BMD is still going ahead even if we went down.

I think we'll stay up as Burnley wont replicate last night again imo however if we do go down we have an opportunity to rebuild and get things right.

Even worse case scenario where we didnt come right back up, in 2 years time we would have a wage budget cut in half and a 53k stadium with revenues much higher than any side down there - we'll be too big to stay down.

People talk about Sunderland but that was a different scenario all together - their squad was barely even Championship standard and the owner (Short) turned the funding off and wouldn't cover losses etc leaving them owing over £150 million to the banks.

Moshiri would stick his hand in his pocket and cover the losses as he has done for the last few years thankfully.

Agreed. It is very concerning but I have a tough time seeing Burnley winning 3-4 games. It's hard to picture a team like Burnley, who has been so poor all season, is going to go on this amazing run and potentially finish 16th even.
Not if you saw them play last night.

They played with passion , hunger and intensity all qualities that we failed to display the previous night.

Their games are far easier than ours.

I'm not being doom and gloom but I'd make them favourites to stay up ahead of us.

Not much point in the premier league. The top is a closed shop. It’s only ever going to be Man City with the odd sprinkling of one of the other super rich clubs winning it. The rest are just there to make up the numbers.
Yeah. I don't want to say it but the Championship is actually far more entertaining.

Brilliant post.

I would rather the doomers stayed away tbh - we need a positive outlook going forward not the constant in fighting and "we're doomed DOOMED lads" everytime we lose a game of football.

How long has Dom on his contract and more importantly do you think there's a get out clause if we're relegated? The chat is that non of the players contracts have a salary reduction if we go down so you'd think that were the case the players wont have a get out either.. tho its Everton football club we're talking about :(
There's no chance we accept south of £40m for him even if we do go down unless our hands are completely tied.
Id play hardball and not care a single jot about them and their world cup year tbh
