Ref for the Derby

Where is this published? In nearly 20 years he's not been near a Liverpool PL game (one LC defeat (1-2) at Sheffield United in 2002 or so) and only done 2 Everton games (away to Wigan 1-1, sent 2 off including Big Dunc - Baines was playing for Wigan) and a 3-2 loss at Man U in 2003..

So if this really is true it's very strange after 20 years he's being allowed to officiate in Liverpool for the first time..

The Guardian ran the story yesterday.

I imagine this could work in our favour and the club should do a bit of mischief making in the lead up.

The more this fact is trumpeted the more Dean will feel under scrutiny and may be very reluctant to award owt remotely dubious to the RS for fear of being labelled biased and facing an inquiry.

Or not, and the game will be abandoned cause we only have 6 players left on the field.

Not really getting all this concern. He's got no leaning either way, he's a Tranmere fan. He was, rightly, took off the 2006 Cup final because he's from the Wirral, which would have upset West Ham fans. Has anyone concluded that he may even have leanings towards us? Why is it that we're all taken it for granted he favours them, he's not Norwegian. This smacks of creating a scapegoat before the match even starts. We're better than that. He's done 1 of their games and 2 of ours in his whole career. He sent of Duncan v Wigan for throwing a punch. He also sent a Wigan player off too. No controversy. The match he reffed for the RS they lost 2-1 to Sheffield Utd. Come on boys.

One day I arrived in Goodison Very early as 1 of the kids was desperate for the Toilet, anyhow ... The officials were warming up & jogging back and forth across the pitch directly in front of us, as the set off from the Paddock/Bullens Rd side I said "here you are kids watch this" ...

as the got close I shouted "REF !!" to Howard Webb, the 4 officials looked at me & I waved a tenner shouting "Go on Howard take it, there's nobody here to see it," he gave me the 'you fffffff...' look but next to him was Mike Dean who looked at him, looked back at me and put out his hand shouting "here, I'll have it," I instantly replied with "It's only a fiver for you cos you're on the line" he was actually the 4th official so he was doing well with my fiver offer tbh.
ANYWAY...
That was on the Saturday & during the following week he was the Referee in the Stade de France for Ireland's play off against France when a certain Mnsr. Henry got away with a little use of his hand.
Now I'm not 1 to cast aspersions on the character of Mr Dean but he had his hand out to me for a bung only a couple of days before.

Mate, that's a really really really cool story, no really, but the ref that night was Swedish referee Martin Hansson, but don't let that fact get in the way of what is a brilliant anecdote.

Really odd appointment- last game he did for us being in 2006/07- the Ferguson/ Jimmy Bullard moment. What's worrying is if he gets injured- the 4th official is Mr. Lee Mason. It'll end up 7 vs 11.

What position did Wally Smith play for Liverpool?

Omg, someone gets their facts wrong, I correct them and I'm Liverpool! I just don't understand this thread, how/why do people think Dean is a Liverpool fan? He was taken off cup final duty as he lived in the area, does that make him a Liverpool fan?? there seems to be a bit of character assassination going on on this thread and I reckon it's uncalled for, the worst one being from the above post where he got his facts totally wrong!!!!!! It's paranoia, and the paranoia continues as you think I'm one of them. You couldn't be more wrong mate.

You will show your true colours within a week.
