Yes, we've notched up 9 points out of a possible 10. We're 4 points from 4th and looking eagerly up the table. And the Yak is back. So things are looking a lot brighter than they were a few backs back (hard to believe that as recently as 1st October we were propping up the table !).

I think our present league position is a true one - by which I mean that, at present, we're a top 10 side but not a top 4 side. I think I'm right in saying that the top 5 teams last season are also the current top 5. It would take a brave or a foolish man to bet against them also occupying the top 5 places next May. Which leaves us as one of several clubs who could find themselves jockeying for a single Europa league place.

What am I basing this on ?

Our main strength this last month has been the form of our central defenders, and the fact that we've only conceded one (silly) goal in five games. Other strengths include our passing, the way we tend to dominate possession, and some class performances from Baines and Cahill. And our squad has more strength in depth than in previous years.

But when it comes to opening teams up, creating chances and scoring goals, we've been less convincing. For me, the Stoke game was not dissimilar to the Blackburn and Wolves games. We looked the better team, but struggled to create any openings against a strong and well organised defence. This comes down to lack of pace in the team, and a shortage of genuine flank players who can provide us with width. This season I've lost count of the number of players Moyes has tried out on the right side of midfield, and there hasn't been one convincing performance between them. Our set pieces have been generally poor, apart from that wonderful David Beckham moment last week. And until now, our strikers have been misfiring, though hopefully that will start to change now following Yakubu's strike against Stoke.

We battled well to get draws against Man Utd and Spurs, but we're not looking like a team who are ready to win those kind of games. And without a general improvement in our performances, I don't see us winning as regularly as we need to against the likes of Blackburn, Wolves and Stoke either.

I expect Pienaar to leave in January. I doubt whether we'll do more than bring a couple of players in on loan - maybe Donovan and one other. If there is going to be a real improvement, I think that Moyes needs to find it from the players who he has now.

You think out current team is capable of looking like beating teams such as Man Utd and Spurs? How much are their squads worth? Rooney has just signed a new contract that could buy our club!
Moyes can only work with what he has, he has been VERY patient with the board and most managers would have moved on by now. It is however down to him to get the best out of our players and on mostly...he does just that. Spurs are a spending machine, have some players I would LOVE in our team. IMO they have bought into the top 5 in place of Liverpool.
Lucky for us the teams out of the Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, City and Spurs havent been spending much like us so we do have a good chance of getting that 6th place and into Europe.
You talk about us improving our performance and we need a reality check, but what do you expect??? A top 4 finish? Winning the prem?
If we can stay in this position or a place above or below we are in fine fettle for a good end of season. We cant dwell on the start of the season because ifs and buts mean [Poor language removed].

Theres my reality check...

ALL teams, including Manure win ugly at times. Look at the way they played against Stoke, Chelsea against Blackburn! Every game is a hard game no matter who you play. With a fit Arteta, the return of Fellaini, Rodwell etc..., the future is looking good. Citeh are doing their usual thing and imploding from the inside (Tevz, drinking binges). Spurs haven't beaten a top four side away in over 17 years. And we have shown we can beat them both, including Manure, Chelsea and Arsenal in the last two years. We can compete for that top four. Domestically Moyes is as good as any in the Prem. With the addition of Donovan and Jags and Distin getting a good relationship going, Hetinga coming into form and breaking down the opposition, the way is forward. Keep the faith!!!

Personally I do think the people keep going on about reality check are the one who need to be doing there own reality check, the start of the season has been a awful one and can you believe it, these so call fans start coming out and saying the chairman & the manager need to go, and even say we are going to be fighting against relegation.

Now we have won couple of games and gained some points and on the verge of catching the Top 5 teams, which is absoluetly normal for fans to think positively, if fans don't believe the team could do it, then why should the player think they could challenge for a Top 4 finish?

I know some people has been over enthusiastic about the possibilities of finishing in the Top 4, but with the form picking up and with us gaining the right result recently, who's to say we can't carry on with this run?

I for one is looking forward to hear what sort of tune would be play, when we come away with 9 points in the next 3 games?

It won't be easy of course, but I do believe we could do something special again, now we have got our foot on the gas!

3 wins and 1 draw = 10/12.

I have to disagree to be honest, i think a Europa should a minimum we should expect and we should be competitive for CL spot. I agree our start was poor but only in terms of points, not performences, if we had won at least two more games people would be purring and lets face it we deserved to. The team has found a rytham and vover the lsat month or so we havebeen one of the most consistent teams in the league, we have already taken points of Norway, Utd and Spurs. I agree that the challenge will be ppicking up points aginst team that play spoiling tactics against us, its where we struggled last year, i can see an evolution this year, we have won away at Brum and Stoke at thome yesterday were games we would have struggled with.

I also think you have to look at the context of the league each season, last season clubs from 8th down focussed on spoiling tactics and made it difficult to break down hopeing for a point and to then nick one on the break. This year there are less teams playing that style, teams are playing a lot more open, Blackpool, WBA, Fulham etc. Equally because of this they are winning and picking up points against top sides, Utd, Arsenal, City, Spurs etc have all dropped points you wouldnt expect them to so far. I think we can match anyone in the league to be honest and all of this in the context of again missing some big players for us. Im quietly conifdent.

Waht wer need to do between now and Christmas is hoover up as many points as we can 30+ should be our target to give ourself a foundation to push pn after Xmas. Ive been impressed by us latley, we look a lot moe solid throughout the team, while additionaly a lot more likely to penetrate and score at the opposite end.

At the end of the season the table just shows wins not how they were earned. If we can slug it out with 1-0 wins to get us up at the top, thats okay with me.
