‘Newspapers are helping to "fuel racism" by the ways in which they portray young black footballers, says Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.’

To be fair, I agree with him. Gets tonnes of stick.

Also, this may be controversial, but Chelsea fans are the most disgusting in the premier league. Imagine maintaining support for that vile institution

He’s right some of his treatment and the failure to call it out by other media has been a disgrace . Some of the reporting has been disgraceful and it’s without repercussion, it doesn’t surprise me that it gets to a boiling point .

Also Leaving the RS to be successful meant he got slaughtered by their fans and supplicants then much of the media relished the opportunity to jump aboard that particular train and get themselves involved .

Paul Canoville probably agrees re: Chelsea. https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/fo...e-of-chelsea-s-first-black-star-a3731276.html

Don't know if anyone watched the 'out of their skin' series, but it was grim watching. John Barnes doesn't speak highly of the Goodison crowd either for shouting racist abuse at him. Hang yer heads in shame if any of the culprits are on here.

You seen that vid of the 3 Middle Aged Chelsea fans tearing into him at the corner flag? Utterly vile. Like going back in time.

I didn’t but did he mention his own fans slaughtering him at Highbury , I’m also sure there Was graffiti on the stadium.

I’m not excusing any issues with Everton we’ve had problems in the past and I wouldn’t pretend we haven’t , I think as clubs that’s where we often differ.

What I'd like to know is what was actually said by the said fans.

I think there will be debate , the one at the end seems to be the most In Trouble and it does appear to have a racial element but it’s whether that’s because you think it has. The other two I’ve no idea go be honest .

If he did, it didn't make the cut. I'd rather focus on us as a club and fan base being mature enough to say "yeah, it was wrong of us" without resorting to "Well they did it arguments". Be the bigger man etc.

I did say that

My only issue is like many things isn’t whataboutery it’s context , I’m old enough to remember issues at goodison but also at most grounds in the country . We weren’t great that’s for sure and it’s indefensible and I can remember specific examples, it was embarrassing then and it’s even worse in hindsight . Also the treatment Barnes got for England was nothing short of sickening , I’ll not sugar coat it .

It’s just seems strange talking about racism that Barnes wouldn’t mention the vicious abuse his own supporters gave him . Allow The last discussions I remember involving Barnes on race was him condemning the Suárez “witch-hunt “ so perhaps it’s not a huge surprise .

I think he’s absolutely superb and I feel sorry for what he’s had to put up with , some of the media stuff has been absolutely awful and it’s hard not to see his point .

If he’s getting racist abuse yesterday it’s a sad reflection of where we are , bananas thrown and racist about in 2018 it’s terrifying.

...I saw a moment where he retrieved a ball from the touchline behind the goal and grown men were baying him. I always find it amazing that adults behave like that. I was in the stands at Chelsea some years ago, the bloke in front was with his young son and obviously picked up on my accent, he said: “I hope you get stabbed on your way out”.

And many people within the M25 think folk in the North are uncivilised.
