Surely a Manager should employ the tactics for the players he has, not the ones he doesn't?

We were fine last year so why fix something that wasn't broken?

Have to agree, of the 48 goals we conceded last season only 10 were from set piece situations.

Irrelevant.if you don't attack the ball and you're man marking your man will score. We've had no Mina, Richarlison or DCL, our 3 best headers of the ball.

Or perhaps the players need to adapt to it through some rigorous training at Finch Farm? Things don't simply work over night - it takes time and effort.

Although to be fair, we were sound at it last year so maybe he should be pragmatic.

Pragmatism always beats ideology over the course. Do what suits your personel. Dont be stubborn.

Rightly or wrongly, I think it would be fair to label Benitez as pretty stubborn when you consider his history.

Zonal is used all over the world, it’s the way it’s implemented and the players using it like any system.

It's the easiest system to score against, doesn't take hours on the training ground for an attacking team to work out, a running jump with impetus wins out every time.

….I think that’s right, the only point I would make is that the introduction of VAR makes the blocking of defenders more difficult so the man marking system could become more popular.

Oh he`ll get it alright, the away fans are a lot vociferous than the home fans.

All I’m asking Is why it is used by most coaches at top level. Am I missing something here. I think the players are as culcable as the system itself.

It's all scripted bud, benitez gets to choose the questions first, not one question about rondone or iwobi.

Man marking is nice and simple, you pick your man up and your job is to solely stop him, if he scores it's down to whoever was marking that player.

Last season we often lined up with 4 CBs which hindered us in open play despite helping us on set pieces.

If DCL Richarlison Mina Docuoure Holgate Gbamin were in the team we would probably be a bit better at defending them. The issue is we have brain dead dossers like Keane Davies Iwobi Coleman who can’t concentrate for any period of time and do stupid stuff like jumping with their eyes shut, jumping ridiculously early, ballooning the ball out of play for no reason etc. doesn’t matter what system we use with that lot they’re just thick footballers with no fake intelligence or concentration whatsoever.
