Those threads aren't interesting though are they? They're people sticking to their guns and whoever shouts the loudest wins. Interesting would suggest anyone ever changes their mind, which I don't think has ever happened.

There's a sliding scale where the more obscure the issue the more likely you are to see actual exchange of views. So on stuff that nobody knows that much about, views can actually shift based on new information or arguments (I've changed my mind on some stuff on here) but when it comes to intrenched principles, not so much.

So you're not a Socialist then? I thought The Esk had converted you? Maybe you don't neccessarily have to change people's minds in order to be interesting. For me I enjoy learning why people hold the views that they do and looking at some of their intellectual ammunition in order to be able to, at least partially, better understand them. You for example, you seem to be a pretty nice, intelligent, well read man, and I enjoy some of your rationale. I can see you hold your views not from ignorance but from knowledge. Even though I'm not someone who espouses right wing views I like to try to understand both sides of a debate. Even if it doesn't alter the position I take within the debate I still feel it enables me to understand, not just the reasoning why I believe what I do, but also the reasoning behind the other side of the argument.
