Education over discussion.
Jon Oliver is good at doing this, mixing comedy with self depeeciation amd current affairs.
Problem is like any addict, they have to want to change. Racists don't.
The only way to fix that is with ridicule, and if there is enough of it, they'd all get back in their box. Problem is they've been emboldened, and there is no appetite anywhere on a populist scale to take them on.

but they know it works because it has before , promise the world deliver nothing and a decade later claim you’re the only ones that can fix the situation you created and promised wouldn’t happen .

It’s insane , the whole thing and I genuinely mean insane
As you rightly say, @LostLegend you're applying rational thought and arguments in a situation where many are not open to the true nature of Reform.

I have a number of friends and acquittances who are regularly (almost daily) posting articles linked to immigration, migrants and crimes they've committed.

It's the zeitgeist, and Reform are harnessing that, whilst conveniently ignoring all the other information out there.

Looking at the reform projections for the next election, it’s gonna be a landslide if what I am seeing is even remotely accurate
They have been way ahead in the polls in recent By Elections and been beaten resoundingly.

All he polling companies are owned by Ex-Tories wanting to normalise the right.
The Councils that Reform won in Council elections are all falling apart due to incompetence and corruption.
Musk and Trump are trying to prop them up, but most people hate both of them and will do the opposite just to spite them.

On the other hand Labour are being absolutely hammered by the Right Wing press, even though they are actually managing to hit most of their manifesto aims even with previous Tory corruption nearly bankrupted the country.

The Government needs to get a grip on the immigration issue. It polls as the most important concern for around 60-70% of those polled.

So, I think this is correct in terms of public concern. But what does it mean to “get a grip” on immigration?

I did a bit of a deep dive on this last week, and to put some facts on the table: net migration is down, deportations are up by 20% (year ending june 25, compared to previous year), half a dozen asylum ‘hotels’ have been closed and the gov has said they’ll close them all this parliament (obviously, to be seen), the number of asylum seekers waiting for a decision was c120,000k when labour took over, is now around 60K (thereby reducing the cost of the system operation).

Has any of this moved the dial at all? This all feels like it should be addressing the ‘legitimate concerns’ but it doesn’t seem to move the needle whatsoever.

Agree with highlight ed especially. They have done very little to help their image, broken campaign promises and that’s going to get worse with the budget mate.
That budget is going to get ripped apart now matter what she does,
Personally I wouldn't mind a bit more tax on my pay if it went directly to the NHS /Education ect and I don't think would be in a minority if they changed the narrative around tax, its like its almost a sin to put them up.
I would be made up if they announced a complete shake up of the system to make it more transparent.
They need to keep the likes of Miliband off the screen he just doesn't resinate with the public at all.
They also need policy's that the public can see is having an effect on there daily lives, not the likes of that innovation tax break that has cost around 12 billion pound to fraud, as the tax office wasn't checking them at all roughly 1% at one time got checked, companies were set up to get the relief and things like providing a vegan menu putting in a fridge were getting through.
It's stopped now , virtually nothing gets granted now even genuine companies trying to claim in the right spirit.
Its not to late to stop reform if they actually stop just reactioning to stuff and take the lead , don't think they will its not in Starmer's nature but they need to be right on there front foot from now on.
They have about a year to turn it around if they don't by the then it will be a slide out of government and the right will get in .

I think the biggest issue is the narrative, because in essence the likely upcoming tax rises will be in many cases used to retain the status quo.

Part of that is investment in infrastructure, the NHS and whatnot, but it wouldn't be new cash per se, yet rather not having to cut spending or take on debt.

If they raise taxes AND raise spending, you're only shifting the balance to the side, rather than trying to get public finances on an even footing.

This is the reality of the situation, however we all know that many of the masses want to hear about tax cuts and extra spending, even if fanciful.

Personally, like you, I would much rather they focused on efficiencies in the truest sense of the word, where productivity and impact are enhanced.

This isn't Musk and DODGE style ripping it apart to help the wealthy; instead, I'd love to see the likes of the NHS remove the excessive, needless waste.

My wife was telling me that the DfE have spent nigh on £80bn on pupil premium money since 2012 (supporting disadvantage), with no impact at all.

If we're going to spend that type of money, which I am happy for them to do if they feel there is a need, then let's make sure it actually does the job.

Quick show of hands who likes a flag up a lamppost then lads?
One of these outside Reform HQ, right?
