What precautions do you take while using these. I try not to use them but when I do I try to put a layer of toilet paper on the seat.

only ever for a wee, although obviously there are times when you just have to. most notable times include during a 1/2 hour stop in osaka "tenko tenko" and whilst up the tower of the harbour bridge i had to use the "dunny" i think is the coloqual name.
football stadium toilets are a definate no though as far as sprising one out is concerned.

I only use them if i really have to. When i do, i d what everyone seems to do, spend 10 mins putting toilet paper down....Then you try to sit only to have it all move
