So us peons can only congregate in groups of 6 yet they allow 22 players, ref linos and assorted others to do the same? What a load of bull.

I was honestly of that opinion I thought the idea was beyond ridiculous and everyone i knew was of the same Opinion . Nobody I know whose watched the NRL hasn’t changed their mind including non rugby fans who I’ve sent clips to .

I’m Generally opposed to the whole thing frankly but the NRL have done it well , no two ways about it .
I was the same didn't think it would work but after a while id forgot there was no crowd.
My son tells me the cardboard cutouts with people's faces and rugby shirts in the stands costs 20 dollars to have your face on don't think id go that far but thought it worked well.
He could have been winding me up over that last bit though.

Putting the derby on free to air so they can play at Goodison because they think they won't all turn up outside is the chocolate teapot of ideas.

Look at a sniff of lockdown being open, instantly beaches, shops, parks start filling up add Cummings Ideology of I CAN DO WANT I WANT then those Historical Grief-Fuelled Customers "icolating" with small groups in Stanley Park, cue fighting and the Police doing nothing but collecting the money for Policing.

Get in the bin Everton seriously if you think this won't happen.

Everyone knows it’s going to happen, no warning from either club is going to stop them but unless you put barriers around the grounds there isn’t a damn thing you can do about it

I was in a rugby group chat and we were discussing the first game & it took us a while to realise it was actually happening . It’s understated but it absolutely adds to the enjoyment .

Definitely does i was watching it on sky so hopefully they do the same for the football.

The guidelines state: "Social distancing should be maintained by all groups where possible.

"This includes the competing athletes and support staff on the bench and field of play, such as during any disputes between players and referees, or scoring celebrations."

On a story on the Echo.

Social distancing on the field of play?

If it's safe, this shouldn't be necessary.
If it's not safe, then the game isn't necessary.

Genuinely think the clubs are just going through the motions to get the cut of the TV money.

Follows:
- 4 positives (3 clubs) from 1008 in R3
- 2 positives (2 clubs) from 996 in R2
- 6 positives (3 clubs) from 748 in R1

So from approx ....

1 in 125 in round one to
1 in 500 round two to
1 in 252 round three to
0 in l130 round three

So although not a perfectly smooth downward trajectory a very clear improving sequence.

Round three a big improvement on round one with perhaps round two giving exceptionally good results but now even bettered by round four.

If players would have actually agreed to a unanimous pay reduction this might have been possible. But when you’re a company (which is what football clubs basically are) where 70% of your turnover goes on wages you don’t have much choice but to get the show back on the road ASAP.

Really the whole thing should have been called off until fans were allowed back. But when people say that “sport” shouldn’t be coming back, it’s not sport really is it? It’s not jumpers for goalposts in the park- it’s a billion pound business with pay masters to serve and wages to pay. Save for the government actually growing a pair and mandating some stuff in order to protect the game at all levels, I don’t know what choice the clubs have.
