It's not a competition though. 17,000 have died from flu as well. And if we isolated, it wouldn't really help with flu, we are isolating because we have no vaccine and immunity to this.

That makes no sense. If we isolated then people wouldn't catch Flu. I have Flu twice in the past 15 years. I have a vaccine every year. The Vaccine is only about 45% effective.

So if a COVID19 vaccine gives a similar effective rate, we are saying that football can never return?

Add the fact that if you have the flu, you have symptoms and therefore it is easier to avoid other people (or for them to avoid you). With this, factor in the number of asymptomatic cases that can still transfer the virus and you have a far more dangerous situation.

The risk from them is extremely low

We have both vaccines and inbuilt immunity to it. That isn't the case with Covid 19 yet, hence why they are treated differently. Flu hasn't got the death rate of Covid 19 either.

BUt yes, people are dying from flu and Covid 19,

As catcherintherye alluded to, single figures is pushing it. But low double figures (0-50 deaths a day) would be similar to that of the seasonal flu. So if we did ever get it under control and if there's a vaccine we'd have to live that.

You must be right then and almost all countries governments are wrong...just accept you don’t know as much as you think you do!

20-40,000 is a bigger number than 17,000 I’m afraid.
We're also talking about an average of 17,000 across a period of twelve months, while the first official UK data was on the 5th of March - less than two months ago.

Therefore, we're talking about over 20,000 in roughly two months and 17,000 in twelve months, so it's not really an objective comparison at all.

Not sure what you are talking about really. I agreed with the lockdown. We had to get it under control for the NHS.

That doesn't mean life has to stop. It has to go on.

And whether people like it or not, football is an industry. If the Government give the ok and the Premier League can ensure safety it should carry on

And that is exactly why the lockdown was put in place - so life can go on.
But it must go on safely. Playing football games with hundreds of people in the ground
and players having hours of direct physical contact with each other is clearly not safe at this time.
Not to mention people congregating to watch the games in homes or people attempting to get close
to the stadiums during the game, which is 100% guaranteed to happen.
It is an absolute nonsense to advocate the re-start of professional football under the current circumstances.

Really? Don't recall seeing your degree in infectious diseases posted anywhere.
this is part of the reason for the great caution being exercised, there is a massive amount that is not known about this virus that we are fighting it blind, precautions have to be made that may, in time, have been needless, but to not take such precautions could see a death toll akin to 1918 Spanish 'flu circa 50m people.

The government won’t and shouldn’t be dictated to by the Premier League, EFL or FA, they can’t give non essential businesses a clear date to reopen as yet so there’s absolutely no way they will give the go ahead for football matches to be played
