Post Stoke game, Stick or Twist?

I voted keep him, I love the guy, but I'm finding it harder each game to defend him,I thought it was a strange bench we had today, the substitution to bring on Naismith made no sense the constant selection of Howard baffles me and I can't justify scoring 3 at home and losing,

I voted stick with him until the end of the season. First season was magic, last was awful, the third season will tell which of the first two was an aberration. The attack has gotten much, much better, but the defence has gotten much, much worse.

No point in sacking him now but it's not looking particularly good for our Iberian hero.

I voted in but fully understand those that voted out. If he refuses to acknowledge our massive defensive frailties and does nothing about it though that overrides all the good work he's achieving with our attacking play.

That's the issue for me. I love the attacking football we're playing right now. But the defensive frailties have been getting worse and worse since the beginning of last season- 18 months. How long do you let it go on for? I see no improvement whatsoever.

could be a great manager if he got a good defensive coach on his staff and learnt to stay away from that side of the game

i'd be fine with keeping him on as our attacking coach anyway. martinez on the attack, moyes on the defence, and big jorge jesus overseeing it with his winning mentality

Does the same thing over and over and expects a different result

Presumably this means that he feels the players haven't quite done what he wanted them to do and they need a bit more practice.

Maybe things will work out. I think the main problem is that Martinez has a firm philosophy on how to play the game. I would prefer him to have principles on how to win matches......

Guys, look back! He did exactly the same thing with Wigan? He is just like Keegan at Newcastle, the attacking footbal is terrific, no doubt about it, but do you know what? It counts for nothing if we dont get the points! Bin him, he is damaged goods. One plan, no compromise, not good enough! We will lose Lukakau at the end of this season if this continues, then he will get us relegated, because without Lukaku, i shudder to think where we would be in the league right now?

I dunno mate, its massively frustrating. And its not as simple as getting rid of howard either i reckon, the moment the opposition have the ball we just seem to backtrack all the way back to our own 18 yard box and invite them to cross or shoot. That bugged me last season and it seems even worse this season.

If the board had any business sense they would look at last season and this and think there is more chance of us finishing 10/11th than of us finishing 5th. Now say we decided to twist we could get a Pochettino in who could make us solid at the back and just as good going forward and have us top 6, or at worse case we get some middle of the road manager in who isn't up to the club's ambitions and we finish 13/14th.

Now is the fear of finishing 13th over 10th that big that we don't gamble like Watford, Spurs and Palace have done and are benefitting from?

Keep, let him do his thing, one more season, we need CB's, Jags got injured, Mori will take time, but is still decent enough, some of his signings have been superb, I think the attack is as good as we can afford to make it, time to concentrate on one thing so we can start actually acquiring points as well as praise.

Not just based on the game today, but over the past 18 months.

The issues we have aren't being addressed.

Do we stick or twist?

I'm trying to be as unbiased as possible.

The football for the majority going forward is lovely, he's bought in some real stars. On the flip side, he's shown he can't organise a defence or has the bottle to get some one to help him do so. He's not strong enough to make much needed changes i.e Howard, and sticks with his people like Kone.

There's no unsures or cheese or toasts etc. Just yes or no.

Hiya mate.

You raise some good points there, shame you couldn't make it for a beer pre-match, it would have been good to have a natter about Martinez and stuff.

You did make it to the match I take it ?
