Post Stoke game, Stick or Twist?

Out, defensively we are abysmal.

Good to watch but don't win anywhere near enough games. We are Wiganton and with this squad that isn't good enough.

Of course you stick.

In fact, if Everton ever fired a manager on foot of a defeat at the hands of that bar steward Clattenberg I would be outraged.

Two penalty decisions determined the outcome of that game today.

A blatant foul on Seamus which wasn't given......as per.

And a wrong penno given to Stoke in injury time.

But as for the manager......no way would I be wanting anyone else.

Yet another exhilarating afternoon at Goodson.

We wuz robbed

But win, lose or draw.......Everton are The Entertsiners as @davek rightly says :)

I've always said that this season is his test for me. He inherited a defensively solid unit from Moyes and added some immediate attacking nous. Job done and it worked quite well.
I was prepared to write off last season as his learning one (imo you're allowed one, but you need to learn from it!).
This season is the test for me. Did he learn from his lack of focus (last season) in defence.
The answer is clear to me right now.
He has made us more exciting to watch and we do for lots of the game play some nice stuff, but without working on defending, we will always ship goals.

I'd say he's cooked his goose in this game, but I wouldn't be hasty in any appointment, I'd make certain we took our time and made the right one. No need to upset the apple cart at this point in a season, however the search should start now.

The question was raised last Christmas as we committed defensive error after error with Howard often the main culprit.

We as a fanbase on here where asked to give it 12 months before a serious question could be asked.

12 months later and we are seeing exactly the same ****. Better in attack and worse defensively, but the same ****. We are in a Semi though. Last year we won a tough Europa group which led to a total collapse in Kiev thanks to dreadful defending.

Nothing has changed. We sit here with some superb players on our books and a few rubbish ones and with a manager who has no tactical fluidity.
We just try and score along the deck with no idea of how to actually win a game of football.

We are Keegan's Newcastle or Joe Royle's Oldham.

Great for the neutral, but ultimately not good enough.

I'm with @ETID88 and @ijjysmith. He should be gone, and thought as much this time last year too. While our attacking play has been great, our defence has been getting worse and worse. Not only that, but Martinez refuses to change it up unless there's an injury to a player. What are we paying him for? I was hoping the Newcastle game was the start of something a bit more gritty. Not looking that way.

But as Ijjy says, it's all for nothing as we won't be sacking him anytime soon. The only way I can see it happening is if a sale does go through. Kenwright, if well enough, wouldn't sack a manager unless we're in danger of relegation. That's still a year off. At the moment though, I get the feeling Elstone is in charge. Which is scary.

We may as well get used to mid table W-L-D form, because unless big changes happen at this club, our attackers will be off within the year, and we'll only be replacing Martinez this time next year in order to avoid relegation.
