Possible transfers that fell through....

Alberto Riera if the story was true.

We offered 12, liverpool offered less and thats where he wanted to go. Thats the version of it i read about.

I remember when we were in for Martin Dahlin after the 94 World Cup and I thought he'd have been boss

Turned us down, although then I got dead excited about getting Amokachi instead.

Never buy because of a World Cup is the motto I think.

He also wanted to buy Billy Bremner. He was going to pay Leeds 15K, they had accepted until Revie said he would quit if they sold him

Didn't know that mate, didn't we steal Bally from under Revie's nose, not sure if it was Revie but I'm sure Ball was close to signing for some other team until Catterick sneaked in and stole him, if that's true Catterick should be knighted just for that alone.

With the Preston Manager being Gordon Milne's Dad, Kendall was all down to sign for Shankly until Harry poached him
and
Alex Scott from under the noses of Spurs

We nearly got Momo Sissoko before he went the RS didn't we. He might've done alright, possibly an upgrade on Carsley. We spent all summer trying to sign Mikael Forssell from Chelsea but he went to Birmingham instead; that was the Summer after we'd come top 4 I believe. We were in for loads of players who didn't end up coming that year.

We didn't announce it formally, but there was a deadline day a few years ago when Moyes said something about having signed five players when he'd only signed four. He was under the impression that we'd got the paperwork for Victor Obinna over the line but it had actually fallen through. He went to West Ham the following year and did okay.

Who was the fella who locked himself in the bog and pleaded with his chairman not to be sold to us? Was that Banega?

That was Tiago at Juventus. Think we were only getting him on loan as well.

Who was that Brazilian fella Kendall was about to sign around the time of the 82 World Cup? I remember there was a photo of the two of them in the paper at bellfield

Just googled it. His name was Nunes, a striker from a Brazilian club in January 1984, which was around the time of the Kevin Brock Oxford game.

Me Dad tells a story about being at the match in about 84/85 and seeing a parachutist jump out of a plane on the horizon. A fella stood up in the Gwladys Street and shouted 'It's f*cking Nunes!' to much laughter. Can anyone on here confirm whether me Dad is chatting bubbles or not?

Paul Mcstay from celtic I vaguely remember reading about us bidding for, I thought he would have been a good signing for us at that time, I could be wrong though.

04-05 was the worst for that.

we'd all but tied up deals for Robbie Keane, Bellamy, Parker, Sissoko etc

ended up with simon davies, phil nevvile and van der meyde

Also Dion Dublin and Robbie Savage in the late 90's/early 00's i believe

It is rumoured by many ITKs of the time that Kendall asked to sign Dublin in 93; but the board were afraid of how the fans would react to them signing a black player and blocked his move after a fee had been agreed - thus providing the proverbial straw that broke the Kendall's back, resulting in his resignation. Rumours...
