I think he had spells where he looked quality in there - the last of them coming when he played alongside Gibson during that boss run in 2012.

I doubt he'd have ever become someone you trusted to anchor midfield on his own, but he was good when left to roam as a box to box type.

Hopefully once Barry does leave it'll be the end of six at the back, and whoever comes in will give Everton more of a foothold in the actual midfield area.
