Well Ghost started one on defensive midfielders so I felt one was warranted in what my opinion is the most glaring need Everton have at this moment.

Obviously, I'd love to get Manuel Fernandes back on loan to fill that need without making a major commitment but if that weren't to happen (much to the delight of many of you :P ), then who else might work for us?

I've always been a fan of Andres D'Alessandro (currently at Zaragoza) but I'd love to hear who might be a "realistic" possibility for us, either through loan or a permanent deal.

Really, we need someone who can hold the ball, open up the opposing defenses, and create either through dribbling, passing, or a combination thereof. Not unlike one Mr. Mikel Arteta.

Let fly....

(Ghost also started a thread on Giles Barnes who would probably fall under this category)

D'Alessandro is a great shout, isn't he out of favour at Zaragoza? I remember reading something about him and Aimar not seeing eye to eye and he told Aimar what he thought of him not training so the club sided with Aimar in a row and then D'Alessandro got real upset about it.

If that situtation has not been resolved a cheeky loan bid should be on the cards my only one concern and its a very slight one is his height/weight he wouldn't really help add some strength to the midfield. but what he lacks in strength he more then makes up for in his ball retention skills.

I haven't seen D'Alessandro play lately so I could be talking bollocks here. But I remember him with River Plate, Wolfsburg, and Portsmouth and he did very well at all three clubs. He was in the Argentina set up for awhile as well.

I just don't know if he's still on that form. If he is or even close to it, I think a loan would be great.

I agree with Ghost, in the shape of Cahill have we not got the best or one of the best goal scoring attacking midfielders in the prem?? And Osman to give him his due has been doing far better this season than last. If it is true about Manny what more could you want?

To be fair, I stated in my original post that Manny would fill the bill. However, the thread was designed to have others bring up reasonable ideas as to who might help us offensively provided we don't get Manny back.

But if Manny doesn't come through, surely the match yesterday illustrated to even the most optimistic Evertonians that we were sorely lacking in the offensive midfield dept. Natually Arteta and Osman would have helped and Cahill does his part but I believe we need one more piece to the puzzle for us to really compete.

It's this area we need the most help in. Not defensive midfield. Not goalkeeping. Not defense. Not up front.

I'd love us to get a natural wide player, someone who will run at players for a change, instead of cutting inside and looking for a pass. I don't know too much about Haynes from Ipswich but he looks a decent prospect, could be eased into the side and wouldn't cost too much...just a thought of course.

well faddy has been running at players on the wing.

just saying like.

Maybe a long shot, but a loan for Wilhelmsson in Bolton might be an idea. Though, i am a little nervous about him being too offensive winger, he do lack some defensive qualitys. He´s a man for back-up if Pienaar or Ossie is gone. But when he is good, he´s really good, and he did do a great job in Roma.
