New keeper is essential but difficult to come by a top quality replacement. Was thinking left wing/mid but I'd like see what cleverly or miralles could do there first. Additional creativity is key, a player who could fit in alongside McCarthy, like Gibson, or behind the striker. I guess depends on where Martinez sees Barkleys long term position.

Remember when we used to buzz off kopites for trying to be all smart arse and continental calling positions by numbers?

A number 10? Attacking midfielder you utter pubes.

There's a big difference though. The kopites used to call them by their footy manager names; trequartista, inverted 9 etc. Bellish behaviour I find you'll agree.

Referring to players simply as a number 9, or number 10 is actually quite old school.

Howard is now 36 and no matter if you love him or hate him he's looking to be on his last legs.

We need a keeper to come in and Robles is not the answer. Yes he did well with 3 clean sheets last season but he's got the look of a calamity keeper to me.

We were linked with the scandinavian keeper in Jan and then also Marshall, neither of which I think would be exciting signings or take us to another level.

Keepers are usually inexpensive and Stoke got the keeper i wanted--Butland-- for just £3.5mil. He's still only 22 years old but has about 120 career games under his belt.

Sadly Stoke have a rich owner and dont need to sell so i'd imagine even £20mil would be rejected for him unless he requested a move.

This position for me is absolutely crucial, we seem to have the defence sorted long term now and need to bring in a keeper for the long term to compliment the team and also build an understanding with the defence. They say keepers win trophies.

Other than Butland and Hart which English keepers are there who could add points on the board for us + any foreign keepers we should be looking at?

Has to be a goalkeeper, although I imagine we'd quickly start looking short up front if Lukaku suffered injury or burnout.

I think we have always lacked a world class keeper. Even in Howards good days he was never world class. At times I think it's been the final piece of the jigsaw that has held us back.

I would like to see Robles get a chance in goal. I think he can be quite solid for us and has more raw attributed than Howard. Ideally though, a player of Lloris ability would be ideal.

The "number 10" or a creative player in the mould of a tadic/Mata/Silva would be even more essential though. We may get away with it for Barkley for a while but will need someone. I hope Dowell can live up to potential!
