This is such a topical debate in my house right now...

Earlier this week my mrs cooked me a wonderful pork chop meal...but it just didn't hit the spot like Lamb does...

I remember a time my mrs' father passed and I had her on a plane that day back to Houston (we were living in UK at the time), she left me with our little lad who was around 14months or so at the time, we had barely any groceries, but I went into the freezer and found some minted lamb chops that I'd bought god knows how long before - so I cranked up the bbq and sat him outside in his high chair while I cooked.

This little lad of mine devoured 3 of them!! I mean they didn't touch the sides, in a matter of moments he'd chomped his way through all 3 and was gnawing away on the bones!

So for that reason and that reason alone - I've gone for lamb! But you've got to have some mint sauce and definitely some gravy!

Yeah but Lamb Shanks were cheap as due to being the bit they couldnt be ar5ed exporting, I remember them being about 60 cents each or something so we used to have a couple each (tons of meat) whereas here they're about a fiver.

Lamb shanks being far superior to any recipe of trotter btw

love lamb shanks and you are right, they used to be dirt cheap...not any more

Neither. There is too much bone on chops.

Now if it is steaks you are talking about....both are great, but lamb wins hands down.

Pity it is about double the cost though.

leg steaks were also phenomenal.

1st time out shopping in Christchurch and having moved from a place where you could no longer get a T-bone (or any beef on the bone) I head into a Butchers in Riccarton & ask for a T-Bone... "how big do you want it ?" ... "as big as possible mate, haven't had 1 for yonks" he headed out back & was obviously thinking "I'll show ya yer bagger" what he brought back after a lot of noise was about 2" thick and basically about 1 1/2 times the size of my plate & cost about 14$ (in 1997 this), I finished the lot ... and the accompanying plate of chips. I returned many times, the 1st time he had a wry grin & asked "how was the t-bone mate ?".......

"Filling"

Garlic Butter all over it. Ffs I've made myself hungry typing it.

Monkfish was also quite cheap as well, cheap enough to use in fish pie anyway.

Lamb, but there are better cuts for both meats than chops.

If you're willing to get stuck in and pick the bone up they can be tasty, but I often find that there's little meat on the chop.

Hang on, I'll see if Nigel Slater is a GOT member......

Lad that worked with us in NZ lived on a farm where he said they had "Cattle Beast" ... cows were for milk apparently... he used to go on about Beef Flap which he said was a piece of very tender beef that was the only beef they used to take after slaughter, said it was nicer than fillet and you could have it A4 size or bigger if desired

If I ever make it to Argentina I reckon I'd come back with some kind of health problem, in fact I could probably come home self propelled cos a good steak always makes me trump 'Hearty Steak ?' more like Farty Steak usually.
if @chicoazul goes or anyone else for that matter I wanna see pics, espesh of Azula's Beef ...unseasoned if you dont mind.

& if @Groucho goes he has to change his name to @goucho for the duration
