Gregg wanted control of the club in exchange for funding Everton's share.

Kenwright gave that a short shrift, and assured us that the money was already 'ring-fenced'.

It wasn't.

It was certainly a bad choice of words by Bill...but not much more. The money would have been available if the finance people had liked the deal, but Gregg wanted so much out of it, the deal didn't look good to the people who mattered..the money people.I think that's the most clear definition of what happened, but I was only an observer at the time, like most of us. Greggs subsequent 'career' in football certainly makes me think he would not have been good for Everton in the medium term. Greggs money was made on the back of Bills expertise in putting budget versions of sure fire hit shows into Greggs refurbished theatres...that at least is a fact. Without Bills shows the theatres would not have survived. Gregg had a lot to thank BK for, and Gregg was not of course an Evertonian. Didn't he finish up bringing Sheffield Wednesday close to bankruptcy, allegedly?

I always thought that Gregg's money came through his wife, who also lent to Kenwright before the relationship broke down. Obviously I only follow these stories through the media, though.

I suppose we'll never know whether or not the investors that Gregg was supposedly talking to would have been more or less useful than the fictional Fortress Sports Fund. 'The money will be in the bank tomorrow' is another which falls under bad choice of words by Bill.

In light of Ronald's post match comments regarding the transfer activity at the club, it seems that the mistakes of the past are still recurring, and important lessons are still yet to be learned.

The haggling, the inept summer dealings, the slow drawn out procedure that Everton transfers are still taking all points to no one other than William Kenwright and his pitiful legacy.

I just want to gauge opinion on his future role at the club. Should he remain as chairman or should he be binned as soon as possible and be judged in the history books accordingly.

Bill Kenwright: Can we progress with him still in the centre of things?

Tbf, We have improved a lot since Kenwright took center stage as chairman, bought a lot of real quality players, improved a lot of areas off the pitch too, and won many awards for catering, customer experience, community work etc as well as moving forwards on the pitch from where we were in the 90's when he didn't have such prominence, and that was done without having the ability to add significant funding...

I think you add Moshiri's money to that and we have the makings of something very useful.

Bill would not of been arsing around with the Tescos stadium etc, or attempting to ring fencing Kings dock money if he could of just gone and done it with his own funds but he couldn't so we missed out on one and nearly didn't with the other.

Imagine all those things we couldn't do because we couldn't afford to... then add money to do it to make it possible, everything from the quality new stadium, to the quality players we went for but couldn't afford. I think if Bill had money and things were going better, communication would be better, results would too, as would the general feeling of his time here.
He's got a lot of experience as to what Evertonians want, just not had the ability/finacnes to make it happen..

Moshiri however potentially does have the money to make it happen, and if he doesn't, he certainly has a friend or two that can.

To be fair to BK, he did say the club has always been for sale to the right person when they come along, looks like he has kept that promise.

Yeah he did and everytime some small club got bought out by some no marks someone would pipe up with a I thought Bill was "searching 27/7" so why them and not us, or "nobody is interested in buying football clubs anymore" type quote. When in reality over the years there has to have been interested parties but none of them could of been any good until this one.
As a few have said Moshiri came to Bill not the other way around, so yeah Bill has done what he said he would do, maybe it was a shame it didnt come sooner but the main thing is it came while we were still a very safe mid table team, with a sort of decent squad and oppotunity for a new stadium.

You're probably right.....but Bill was certainly a major factor in making the Greggs very rich. Words can always be interpreted in many ways, depending on your agenda. When a poster on here says 'Bill should be lynched' that's an equally 'bad choice of words' Thing is..is Mosh the new Phil Green.........feel free to discuss, using your own choice of words.;)

Very much my fear.

Martinez was a moron who would probably have signed utter no marks even with a proper budget. But the last 15 years we've been hamstrung by BK asset stripping and general ineptitude. Martinez set us back badly, but BK has held us back for 15-20 years.
I think that's harsh mate. Remember who Kenright took over from...
