I locked it because it was 1,000+ pages of people in the blue corner entrenched in their views, shouting at those in the red corner entrenched in their views. I'd also read a couple of studies showing that people become more entrenched, the more they discuss things on fora like this, so it generally seemed a waste of time.

Haha, to an extent, but I'm kinda seeing it more that people who have supported the site hopefully have its best interests at heart and so will post sensibly. Like I said to Clint, it's an experiment. If it doesn't work, we can reassess.

So you locked it for pretty personal views, it seems to me - it wasn't exactly in meltdown. What did it achieve by not allowing it to be posted on? Allowed you to feel a bit superior, I suppose...

On a serious note, it's a shame, look at the basic income thread for an example of an interesting and insightful thread from posters on both sides of the politic spectrum.

Additionally, I very much enjoy reading other perspectives, it regularly adjusts my own viewpoint and beliefs, particularly when first hand evidence is presented.

There's nothing wrong with being wrong, if you're prepared to listen and be informed/educated. Not going to get that by shifting it off the board.

This is primarily an Everton forum though mate. I would say perhaps 50% of the reports we get emanate from these kind of threads. This is an experiment to try and reduce that number.
