Players we turned down

Ba was a bad one.

Easy to say in hindsight and I can understand the insurance, wages and knee problems but 35 goals in two seasons would've come in pretty f*cking handy here.

Kendall famously turned down Ruud Guillit in the early 1980s.

Finally someone that remembers it, they went to watch him play for Haarlem and ruled him out but came back with Atteveld who was sent off for a headbutt.... as I remember.

I asked Big Nev on Twitter but he reckons it's not true, his reply was "I wish it was true."

I read somewhere a while back that the Catt tried to buy Dalglish as a 16yr old but was but was given short shrift by Jock Stein.think it was around the time we bought Joe Harper, what a buy that would've been.

My dad says the Ian Rush story of us and Liverpool scouting him.

We scouted him in the game he was played on the sing, they scouted in a game where he played upfront. The rest is history.

Yeah it's a myth, if nothing else by the time we signed atteveld gullit was already world player of the year at milan.

Some of the managers we missed out on rankle even more. Remember reading an Echo thing about how Brian Clough was odds on for the Everton job in 1977 and was quoted (?) as saying he'd fancy the job. Also, in 1994, we took Mike Walker when Bobby Robson later said if he'd have been offered the job he would have took it. I know that wasn't the first time we'd been linked with him.

3 times we didn't appoint Bobby Robson apparently.

Dion Dublin stands out for me, not the greatest by any means but feck me he took some points off us, and at the time it raised questions about if there was a 'colour bar' at Goodison.

I remember there being strong rumours that Kendall could have had Gheorghe Hagi from Real Madrid but thought that £1 million was a bit steep.
