It's a load of rubbish, really. Evra's had an average season by his standards, and yet he's 11th? And above Baines?

Dirk Kuyt's 12th ffs.

I think the criteria includes how many times a player finishes on the winning side, so anyone playing for the likes of United or Arsenal is bound to be placed higher.

Really that makes it quite a dumb system then.

Especially when you consider players playing for a top side are more likely to score (strikers) and less likely to concede (keepers/defenders) anyway.

I feel sorry for the statistician who had to write it. It's a load of bollocks, how can Dirk Kuyt be 12th, and Arshavin who by all accounts has had a poor season, be one place behind Baines in 20th.

Hell Torres actually appears in 48th somehow, despite being ****e all season above van der Vaart in 56th. GBH is 68th.

It does include whether the player was on the winning side which does explain the saturation with Man Utd and Arsenal players. For some reason it also include the time spent on the pitch during the game, so if a player plays for 90 mins he gets more points than someone who comes off in the 80th minute. I'd say the amount of points per game would be a fairer measure, and would help account for any serious injuries suffered by a player.

KEY INDICES
1. Winning Performance - Players receive points for time on the pitch in a successful team. Players will receive more points if they play the full 90 minutes in a winning team. This index shares league points won by a team between the players according to the minutes they are on the pitch. Only time on the pitch and points scored are taken into account in this first index.

2. Player's Performance per match - Players receive points for positive influences on a winning performance (shots, tackles, clearances, saves etc). Players have points taken away from their score for negative actions such as shots off target and yellow/red cards.

3. Appearances - Players receive points for minutes on the pitch. The number of points won by ALL teams in the league are divided amongst the players according to the number of minutes they have played. This is similar to the first Index but this does not take into account the result of a match, it awards points purely for playing time.

4. Goals scored - Players are awarded points for scoring goals. These points are only given to the goal scorer.

5. Assists - Players awarded points for assists. These points are only awarded to players that make the assist.

6. Clean sheets - Allocates points for clean sheets to the whole team. The proportionate split of the points is weighted according to the player's position. Therefore a goalkeeper will be awarded a greater proportion of the points for keeping a clean sheet than a striker. The points are also awarded proportionately to the time spent on the pitch.

Considering then, that we've only won 8 games and we've hardly kept any clean sheets, Baines being in the top 20 is mightily impressive.

Yeah. He's been an ever-present and one of the best assist-providers in the league. He's also popped up with a few goals. You wonder where Distin got all his points from though! lol

I guess there has to be an algorithm for expected performance in there as well, since players you expect to be kind of ****e in the index are actually rated quite highly.

The more I think about it, the more sense it makes. I expect Baines to be boss week in, week out, which he is, so he gets no real bonus from it. Kuyt and Nolan occasionally score a goal which I don't expect, multiplying their actual performance by loads.
