It is hard to recall a campaign during the David Moyes era when the race for the Player of the Season prize has been so keenly fought.
In each of the six previous seasons since the award became the showpiece of the End of Season Awards dinner the battle for the main prize has clearly been between two or three key candidates.
But this campaign of rollercoaster moments has ensured a host of individuals have staked strong claims at various points of the season.

Last year's winner Leighton Baines - who picked up a hat-trick of gongs in Player of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and Goal of the Season - has continued to underline why he is one of the finest left-backs in world football but this time around he faces tougher competition - not least from the defenders he works so tirelessly alongside.
John Heitinga has grown in stature as the campaign has progressed, grasping with both hands the opportunity of a regular central-defensive berth provided by Phil Jagielka's extended absence from the side.
The man who has been virtually immovable alongside both players is Sylvain Distin, who has continued to prove why he was such an astute acquisition following Joleon Lescott's departure.
