Places to avoid

Moving up there once I find a job with my mrs and baby to be close to her family.

The town centre is grim but the rest of that part of the country is great.

Really looking forward to getting up there.

We’ll be living just outside of barrow in Roose or maybe dalton hopefully.

My mates live not far outside Dalton mate, in a little village called Gleaston.

I’ve been to Dalton quite a few times, both during the day and night and it’s a bit rough tbh and the now shut Lakeland Zoo bought a lot of business into the town.

If you could afford it, I’d look at some of the villages near to Dalton- more expensive, but a better quality of life.

I avoid Manchester like the plague.

Thoroughly detest the place , the city centre is a mess full of Gallagher wannabes and beggars , never ask for advice or directions in a Scouse accent.
The place has a very distinctive smell too , it's absolutely stinks.
From the many city's I've visited in my life it's rock bottom on the list .....Horrid place.

Los Angeles. Went there as part of my honeymoon after getting married in Vegas. 90% of it is an absolute dump with dangerous nutcases wandering the streets talking to themselves and homeless shanty towns everyhere while the rich are segregated off in the hills miles away. The subway system seems to have no security at all and again is full of crazy people and your relieved to reach your destination in one piece. I don't know what they do when the oscars is on as that area by the chinese theatre is plagued by crackheads and reeks of piss. This idea of a glitz and glamour tinseltown is an absolute myth. We went to San Diego and San Francisco on the same trip and they were both miles better.

Sister in law has lived in LA for years and I’m pretty much of the same opinion as you.

The thing with LA, is that there is no such as normal areas, you’re either super rich, normal rich or desperately poor.

The only place I’ve ever been to there, where I felt genuinely relaxed was Venice Beach, as it was much more mixed and cosmopolitan.

We hired a car one day to go exploring and took a wrong turn into a really bad area, which was quite literally a turn away from a really nice area.

It was quite frightening tbh.

I used to live in Oakwood, which is pretty gentrified now, but wasn't 25 years ago. My apartment was just a few blocks back from Venice beach, but three people got shot on my block within the first month of me living there, and there was a dude who used to sell crack from my yard. He was cool though, got to know him a bit and he kept the place safe if we were out, in return for us not calling the cops on him.

The town itself was hit very hard by Covid, however even before that it was degrading quickly. But, with the shipyard doing well, and seemingly getting stronger, hopefully the town will get some money injected into it. I heard that they are themselves looking to do some stuff to make it more attractive to potential employees that work on site, etc. May be BS but fingers crossed.

Grew up in Lindal-in-Furness, although spent more time in Ulverston, until we were going out drinking, regularly.

Never too far away from, what I consider, the best scenery in the country.

Morecombe..... Closely followed by Blackpool.

Everyone thats up in both places that are from liverpool and surrounding areas are pretty much relocated sex offenders.
Its pretty much nonce central up dodgy Lancaster way, its mad that they relocated all these turds to seaside resort towns.

Bump into a scouser living up there and its at least a 50% chance he's a beast.
Great second hand book shop in Morecambe, so swings and roundabouts I suppose.

It’s a cesspit of hate filled thick, stuck in the 80s mutants.

Sorry mate, It was more of a niche joke from this thread.

The phone rings....

"Duncan, it's David Haythronthwaite here, chairman of AFC Fylde in the Conference. What are you up to these days?

"David, I'm currently sat on the beach in Malaga, as you know I left Everton looking for a new opportunity within management"

"We're sitting 23rd in the Conference as we speak, I need a man with the leadership quality to get us away from the relegation zone and push us up the table. Are you able to come in for a chat when you are home?

"Aye not a problem, David, I'll give you a call when I get back home in a few days"

Duncan attends the job interview for AFC Fylde and it's not long before word gets about amongst supporters the former Everton centre forward has been for a meeting with the club chairman.
