Pienaar

So were basically eating £2 million? Extremely happy to have Pienaar back but come on. This sell low buy high strategy is just sad. Spurs just made 2 mil off us for having a player sit on their bench.

Some people are being ridiculous and it's starting to get on my nerves.

Pienaar was in the last 6 months of his contract when Spurs bought him. We needed cash and he would have gone on a free in June, Spurs weren't desperate for him but we needed to sell somebody.

Pienaar had/has 2 years left on his Spurs contract, we wanted him desperately and Spurs knew this, they also weren't desperate to sell him to us and he feasibly could have gone somewhere else had we dicked them around too much. We therefore paid a fair rate of £4.5m for a guy who completely changes how dangerous we are on the attack and actually stops us being toothless.

Not saying your wrong, but I still feel as though we were played a bit. Spurs new we were desperate for him and got us to pay 4.5 million. I think Pienaar is worth it, but I don't think other teams would have paid that much. Either way he's back. Time to celebrate.

The press is reporting 4.5Mil!!? Please tell me we are not signing 30yr old Pienaar for that.

Am i the only one who is not overly fussed by Pienaar. Sure I'd take him back but not for 4.5. I'd rather have spent that on a player who could potentially deliver 10 goals a season and we worth more in the future

Look at his record. 28 goals in 247 games played. One goal every 9 games played. Only 2 in 57 for South Africa.

Same applies for Donovan.

Could care less how much it was and not going to waste any more effort / energy on it. Just want to see him in the obligatory picture at Finch Farm waving the # 22 jersey.

Now find another 3M and go get Donovan. There is no market / competition - he's already said he wouldn't play anywhere else.

Of course Spurs played us, Levy will dump on Kenwrong from any height he wants.

Pienaar may not be a scorer of a ton of goals, but he has had a solid goal return for Everton and last season he was the club's leader in assists with 6. He is essential to the way we play and we needed him in the fold this term to have any chance of making a run at europe, CL, etc.

Congratulations, your ignorance/stupidity made me sign up.

Seeing as you love the glory stats, Luka Modric has nailed 13 in 127 games.
Andres Iniesta? 27 in 271
Xavi? 48 in 448.

Football really is that simple.

This made me laugh.

Are you comparing us to Braca or Xavi and Iniesta to Pienaar??? Which one is it?

Modric, Xavi and Iniesta all play as classic central midfielders. Pienaar doesn't.

Do you even watch Everton games?? Moyes plays with two central midfielders, most likely Gibson and Rodwell/Fellaini not Pienaar. We play with one upfront. Where are the goals going to come from?

Here's a stat for you.

We scored 50 goals in 38 matches last year. Barcelona scored 114 in 38.

If you keep doing the same thing you get the same result.

We need our wide players (hence my reference to Donovan) scoring more than 5 goals a season, regardless of how many they create. Simple enough for you? Any chance you can un-sign?

As I said, not anti Pienaar, I want him back... but if the 4.5 reported is right, than I'd rather have spent that on a sign on fee for Hoilett. A 22yr Hoilett or 30yr Pienaar?

Then again I was a huge Drenthe fan... what do i know.

We're not signing him for that. I'm not saying the press never tell the truth (or know the truth) but if you just assumed everything in the press was wrong you'd be right more than if you assume everything in the press is right.

Probably.

Yeah just pick up one of the many midfielders who score 10 goals per season for 4.5 million and call it a day Moyes FFS. Oh and make sure he's young too so we can sell him for a profit (NSNO!).

Look at his record. 28 goals in 247 games played. One goal every 9 games played. Only 2 in 57 for South Africa.

A) We can't afford young Pienaars and Donovans so its a moot point. If you think you know [player you want to sign instead] can mesh with our team as well as they could then that's fine. You don't know that -- nobody knows that. We have no money. A proven (as proven as you're ever going to get) player is worth more than a player with promise. If we miss on a 5-10m younger player it could set us back a year or two (sadly). Every manager, even Prem and CL winners, misses on player signings. If we have no choice then maybe you take a gamble -- when the alternative is a player who we know works well in our system then it makes sense to take the bird in the hand. It's worth two or something.

B) Most of us have promised buckets of jizz if we end the summer without selling key players and getting Pienaar and LD. We can't be expected to stop stockpiling now. (What's that ... we're not supposed to save it up? ... oh I misunderstood ... all at once?!?!? good grief!)

C) Not to resort to LCD but do you really expect us to take advice on how to spend our money from someone with Greek in their username?

Then again I was a huge Drenthe fan... what do i know.

Not a lot apparently. You missed the entire point of the post that you quoted.

Goals and assists have to come from somewhere.

I'd like to try and win something in the here and now.

So....

Party on Tuesday.

Welcome back Peanuts.

Report in the Daily Express claim we've paid "more than 1 million LESS than the 3 million Spurs paid for him 18 months ago"

That can't be right surely? I'd be hugely surprised if Levy agreed to that!

If they had said more than 1 million more than the 3 million Spurs paid, that would tie in with the earlier reported 4.5 million figure so who knows maybe a mistake on their part.

The express are one of the better tabloids though TBF.

Sky Sports reporting Everton agree fee w/ Spurs for Steven Pienaar. Bout time.
