Donovan would have to force an exit from the MLS if he wanted to go.

Dempsey is also in the last year of his contract.

Yeah. The Dempsey issue is pretty simple: Fulham will hold out for something like £7-10m this summer, and probably half of that if he stays until Jan. Moyes has been a long time admirer, but we'll certainly have to sell someone to get him.

Re. Donovan: I was wondering if the MLS can still command a fee if the player is out of contract. Might be a moot point if he isn't, but the Bosman ruling obviously wouldn't apply. Still, if he's not contracted to the MLS what happens?

The opposite is probably true. Spurs desperately need him off the wage bill to try and fund the wages of Adebayor and Modric, among others.

as if there going to get adebayor, no way will he take a 100k a week wage drop to join spurs.

and if they need to get rid of players off the wage bill they have dos santos, bentley, jenas, gomes. krancjar. huddlestone, theres more then enough there that he could sell.

I agree that Dempsey is most likely to be a no go! Fulham will hold out for as much money as they can get.

Landon I feel would be a different story. Last year of contract also but he's gave sooooo much to the MLS I can't see them denying him a move at this stage of his career. He could easily do 3 years with us then make a return to MLS for 2 more years.

We sold Arteta for £10m a year after he signed a 5 year deal. There's absolutely no chance of Fulham getting £10m for a 30 year old with a year left on his contract who wants to leave.

MLS holds the rights to Donovan but as i said if he wanted to leave at the end of his current contract he could force it through. Having said that i wouldn't really be that interested seeing as that would be December of 2013, by which time he'd be 31 and a half years old.

I know there is alot of speculation regarding Donovan and the ownership of him. Its my understanding that it is alot more similar to the English League than we think. Galaxy contract him and so, just as Beckham last year, he is free to leave at the end of his contract. His contract ends this coming December/January. I think the whole MLS interest comes from more of a commerical basis. As he is the face of USA 'soccer', they wouldnt want to lose that marketing 'brand' but ultimately have no say in any decision he makes on his future.

I love this thread btw, i check it all the time at work....just because the thought of getting Pienaar and Donovan in on permanent transfers makes my stomach jump with excitement every time. Also LCAB mentioned that the wheels are in motion for Donovan to sign in January at the end of his contract if a fee cannot be agreed this summer.

Dempsey...hes good dont get me wrong, but he is the talisman at Fulham, with all tactics and play centred around him. Here it wont be the case, so I could easily live without him.

Moyesy goes the pub near me every few months, Im gonna go camp there until I next see him and ask him if hes after Landy (as its obvious he wants Pienaar). Ill obviously promise not to tell a soul and then post it immediately on here. Sounds a cunning plan doesnt it. Watch this space ;)

They're not going to sell players who they actually need or want to feature in the squad, and i somehow doubt players like Gomes and Jenas are on £70k a week. Even then, you need somebody to actually come in and bid for them.

Pienaar is different because everybody knows he wants to leave, he's on £70k a week and Spurs know he'll never be the same for them as he is for us.

Modric alone will require cutting £50k+ a week off the wage bill, then you have other players like Assou-Ekotto who have stated they may leave.

He only fairly recently turned 29, didn't he? Regardless, I didn't say Fulham would get £10m.

So you're saying Donovan has 18 months left on his contract?

Ah, you've answered all my questions, even some I didn't think to ask.

Im pretty positive that his contract expires this December/January.

The MLS season runs on a different schedule to European leagues. His contract expires in the winter of 2013 as far as i know.

You said they'll hold out for £7m-£10m, but i really don't see it. If they want any decent figure for him they'll want to sell him now, his value will nosedive in January. I could see him going for £6m.

His contract lasts until the end of the 2013 season.

I have to say Mr Brennan you are correct. He has 2 years left on his deal with Galaxy (which would end winter 2013 as you said)...

I however, refuse to doubt the oracle LCAB, and if he says the wheels are in motion for a deal, I believe him...dont you Brennan?
