Dont we have an option to buy him for £2M? I'd still like to see a bit more from him before buying.

With our finances we cant really afford to buy just anyone for £2M. We are severly in debt, lets not forget that, there is no harm in keeping cash in the bank.

I agree he has potential, but he hasnt played 1 match yet where he's been class for 90 minutes.

metalist was a good game for him
hes improving game after game and if the price is not pre fixed it will go up if we want him but leave it till the summer

Agreed he was one of our brighter players on the night, but only for half a game. At the moment he hasnt done anything to justify his move other than the odd bit of skill, but nothing match-winning yet.

He's far too similar to Osman both in build and style of play, however with probably a bit more vision and skill, oh yeah and actually stays on his feet.

He's not the man that will dramatically improve our midfield, so if money was tight, id say spend it elsewhere OR sell osman to fund the purchase.

I dont think hes like Osman really, Pienaar is quick, skilful and can cross the ball. What is Osman? A winger? A midfielder? In the hole? I dont think hes good at any of them.

I dont know which position and what type of player you would class Osman as to be honest, but then again, thats exactly what I think of Pienaar. He's not a winger as he doesnt run with the ball, he's not a central midfielder cos he's too weak.

Theirs not much between them, Pienaar seem to read the game better so better at the through balls, flick on's while Osman has the better eye for goal. As for crossing, I dont think either stand out as any different, nor pace really.

I'd just pip Pienaar as the better all round player as he doesnt loose possession as much as osman.

Pienaar seems to have a huge amount of energy aswell, someone compared him to Owen Hargreaves in that sense and I wouldn't say they're far wrong...Energy wise.

Osman doesn't.

Thats another plus for Pienaar. Also, Osman seems to wander in and out of games too often, Pienaar seemed to do that initially too, but lately he's been more involved.

Still, I'd like to see him controlling the ball more and creating more opportunities for the forwards.

yet to be convinced by anyone in our midfield this year.

even arteta has been on and off (although it can't help playing with player so far below your own level of talent).

I say sell them all to get one box to box class midfielder in the style of fernandes (but obviously not fernandes).

so, unless Pienaar improves I can't see it serving much purpose to buy him.

He's not really changed any games around. Still its his first season in a league notorious to acclimitise (think I spelt that wrong) to. If he looks like he's improving towards the end of the season we can rethink.

I disagree with almost everything you've written there.

I thought we all accepted the main reason our midfield is crap is because, Arteta aside, it is a patch-up job due to injury and Fernandes' skulduggery.

We've already got a small squad so selling up and putting all our eggs in one midfield basket seems a daft idea. What do we do if he gets injured. We need a classy midfielder ASWELL as our current squad not instead. And I think the club understand that, which is why they tried to bring fernandes, lucho, riquelme(!) etc in over the summer

Arguably Pienaar was brought over as a squad player (a better version of Osman) rather than our midfield saviour - he's just getting a chance to prove he can be more and hopefully taking that chance.

In the interest of my own sanity I'll assume you dont want to sell Arteta in this sweeping statement

so, unless Pienaar improves I can't see it serving much purpose to buy him.

Why would we expect someone in Pienaars price bracket to have singlehandedly changed games round? I can however think of a few critical contributions he has made - including the metallist game - which are enought to feel quite positive at the moment.

He had a nasty habit of disappearing earlier on in the season, but looks to be getting better and better with each game. He is improving, and at times looks better than what we have. I think theres a fairly clear purpose for buying him providing he continues to progress.

If he looks like he's improving towards the end of the season we can rethink.

We dont have to rethink anything - because we dont have to make a decision yet! Thats the whole point of an option to buy at the end of the loan period. he's got a whole season to keep on impressing or to mess up.

Keep it up Stevie P La! COYB

Some players need the arm round the shoulder and he's had that from Moyes. At that price he has to be worth it, he has energy, skill and a clear love of the club already, see reaction being substituted on Sunday. His second half performance in the Metalist game helped spark our revival. He gets a thumbs up from me(y)
